Introduction

There is no doubt that the topic of character formation belongs to the number of the most important research areas. The process of character formation is associated with numerous stereotypes and false assumptions that have a negative influence on human society on a global scale (Metzger 92). Using the approach to education that is based on the lack of understanding of the link between character and physical activity, many people prevent their children from achieving success (Pathak et al. 64). The knowledge of the real effects of youth sports on the formation of character can help to create an education strategy that would help young people to improve their physical shape and fight their weaknesses simultaneously. The creation of such a strategy where sports will be used as a kind of psychotherapy can be encouraged by further research on the discussed topic.

Proposal

The question concerning the presence of the link between youth sports and the formation of character has been studied by numerous researchers, but the latter was focusing on more specific aspects of character formation. Therefore, the direct impact of youth sports on character formation has not been described yet. Nowadays, it is known that the moral development of adolescents and sports participation presents two variables that are strictly interconnected (Li et al. 505).

Continuing on the topic of the current knowledge in the field, it is pivotal to state that modern researchers aim to study the problem of sports participation and its influence on people belonging to different age groups. To do that, they focus on possible links of sports participation with both positive and negative tendencies. Thus, it is known that there is no obvious connection between physical activity and the propensity to crime among adolescents (Spruit 655).

As the current state of research indicates, the presence of the impact that youth sports have on character formation requires additional research. Nevertheless, even though the problem has not been studied with the use of the scholarly approach, many coaches believe that physical education and sports have a positive influence on the development of character (Ferris 127). The proposed research aims to fill the knowledge gap that exists in the field and study the possible role of youth sports in character formation. In particular, the research will be based on the assumption that the process of character formation should be thoroughly analyzed and the key aspects of this process should be identified. Otherwise, the lack of exact terms can pose a threat to the practical significance of the results and their credibility.

Conclusion

About the work plan related to the proposed research, the planned working process is supposed to include three stages: preparation, data collection, and the analysis of the retrieved data. During the first stage, it is planned to conduct a thorough literature review to understand the assumptions that can be used to analyze the practical results. Based on that, a survey helping to assess young people’s perceptions of the connection between aspects of character formation and youth sports will be created (Tazegül 537). The discussed tool and the knowledge on the psychological impact of youth sports will be used to conclude whether the latter play a part in character development. If found, the part will be analyzed in a more detailed way. The results are expected to expand the knowledge related to the effectiveness of youth sports for the psychological development of young people. Also, if the significant link between the variables is found, it will be possible to use the results to develop a new approach to physical education dealing with students’ problems.
