You have just finished a lesson on solving inequalities and handed students a wo

You have just finished a lesson on solving inequalities and handed students a worksheet to complete silently. While the students were working independently, you decided to check your email, not realizing that your computer screen was still being projected to the class.  You open an email from the principal Mrs. Russell, who is following up on a student, Rebecca Johnson, who was recently referred to receive services on an Individual Education Program. You realized what had occurred once you heard the students giggling at the screen. You quickly unplugged the computer from the projector and told the students to get back to work.  What should you do next to protect the student’s privacy? Include evidence from “Model Code of Ethics for Educators (MCEE)” and “Professional Dispositions of Learners.”
After answering the discussion question with at least 150 words you will then respond to the following 2 classmates in a positive constructive manner with at least 150 words as well. They have also gave thoughts on the same discussion question.
1. Evidently, this was a mistake. My thoughts go to how this could have been prevented: not checking email messages when students are in the classroom, unplugging the computer to move to the teacher’s table/desk then checking email messages, and when students are working on an exit ticket/worksheet be walking around the room. Since it was not prevented, it is a violation of “protecting information from being shared with unintended third parties through technology,” (NASDTEC, 2023). I believe the next step would be is to document the sequence of events and report to my principal with the documentation. Then, submit to consequences based on the policy and/or laws, (GCU, n.d.). Personally, I would issue a written apology to the student then demonstrate restorative practices after making a mistake with my class. I will endeavor to reestablish trust with all my students.

2. I would address this mistake through the “Model Code of Ethics for Educators” and “Professional Dispositions of Learners”. As educators, we must use technology in responsible ways. We must ensure that the privacy of students are being protected. We have to respect the dignity of our students, and this can be done through protecting the confidentiality of student records (NASTDEC, 2015). Once this mistake has happened, it is my responsibility to address the situation. Teachers must demonstrate responsibility, accountability, integrity and resourcefulness (Grand Canyon University, n.d.). I would do this through taking immediate action. I would openly apologize to the class and admit that this was a mistake. As stated in the “Professional Dispositions of Learners”, teachers should talk openly to the students and mean what they say (Grand Canyon University, n.d). I would then apologize to the student directly. I would be open, and ask my colleagues and the administration for advice on what should be done next, and actively do the most effective advice. I would also take measures to ensure that this will never happen again.
