A union is a combination of forces and minds into one functional unit or common purpose. The United States’ ancient war was made up of a union which the aim of gaining strength, acquiring new territories, and withstanding the external attacks by their enemies. The first advantage is that the union brought about unity through the combination of military forces and other necessary equipment and machines that could help in conquering their enemies. Through combined forces, it was easier for the Union to defeat their enemies or opponents. The combination of tactics made it easier to defeat their opponent’s forces. It was evident that the high number of military personnel and guns could eventually help in fighting back the Union’s enemies.
On the other hand, it is believed that the formation of the union led to or facilitated the establishment of a significant capital base for the military. According to Booth, John, the capital was in the form of finance, equipment, and other crucial assets that were put into use during warfare. In the previous periods, their enemies used to defeat them because of a lack of useful resources, military personnel, and skills. It was witnessed that after the formation of the union, things started changing as their military started withstanding the rapid army forces of their enemies.
According to Booth, John, the issues that affected the confederacy included Europe’s failure to recognize and honor the confederacy war. It was extremely difficult for forces to get foreign aid which mostly came from Europe. Secondly, there was a poor man-to-gun ratio. The Confederacy had more guns than the military personnel. In this case, it means that there were thirty-two guns for every single soldier. Lastly, the confederate relied mostly on foreign trade crucial war items. The union damaged the confederacy businesses hence affecting the confederacy severely.
Among other issues that severely affected the confederacy include; the states in the confederate union had differing aims concerning the confederacy union. According to Booth, John, some leaders wanted to use the confederacy union for political gains; others wanted to use it for economic gain while others wanted to use the Confederacy to acquire new territories. The Confederacy was majorly intended to defeat their enemies and acquire some other new territories. This did not work as anticipated as a result of adhesive forces among the Confederate parties. These key issues made the execution of the Confederacy’s goals difficult. Since it became difficult to execute the roles of the Confederacy, the united states ended up protecting their borders.
There are two main occurrences that define the turning points of the American civil war. These are the Gettysburg and the Chancellorsville battles. The first and most commonly known is the Battle of Gettysburg which occurred in July 1863. The Union army had been mandated to fight Joe. Most citizens believed that these were the changes that were required by Lincoln to finish the war. President Lincoln had gotten some spy information on the organized invasion, and so he sent his United States army to cut off the planned invasion. After the defeat by the Potomac Army, Gen. Lee’s forces were forced to retreat whereby they never recovered.
Booth says that Chancellorsville was the second turning point for the battle. The battle was between the newly appointed Commander Gen. Hooker and his opponent Gen. Lee. As a new general, Hooker was assigned the duty to stop Gen. Lee. It was unfortunate that instead of Gen. Hooker defeating Lee, it turned out to be the best-executed fight by Lee. Mr. Lee became victorious because he was more equipped in terms of tactics compared to Hooker. The fight turned out to be the main turning point from the death of one of Hooker’s key men Mr. Stonewall Jackson. This made Gen. Hooker retreat and cease-fire since he had witnessed losing more of his soldiers.
