What is the La Verne Experience Mission?
The La Verne Experience (LVE) is the University of La Verne’s signature academic experience. LVE is designed to foster a holistic education and create a sense of belonging to build a community of learners. LVE focuses on integrated learning and theory-to-practice participation, as well as engagement in reflective thinking and analysis of critical social issues. LVE thus empowers students to create transformative change through a pedagogy of equity and social justice, intentional discourse, and community engagement, by working alongside diverse groups and individuals.
What is Life Long Learning:
Lifelong learning (one of our University values) refers to the idea that learning is a lifelong process that continues beyond formal education. Integrative learning involves the synthesis of knowledge and skills across multiple domains, and often involves interdisciplinary approaches to problem-solving. An integral aspect of Integrative learning, lifelong learning (our University value), is an understanding and a disposition that a student builds across the curriculum and co-curriculum, from making simple connections among ideas and experiences to synthesizing and transferring learning to new, complex situations within and beyond the campus. Lifelong learning can facilitate integrative learning by providing opportunities for ongoing skill development and exposure to new ideas and perspectives. Integrative learning, in turn, can support lifelong learning by helping individuals develop a deeper and more meaningful understanding of the world around them.
What is LVE 400?
Faculty across colleges and departments have created these courses to focus on interdisciplinary topics and career ready skills including written communication, critical thinking, and intercultural competence. Therefore, students from a variety of majors and backgrounds research and share their knowledge, skills and interests developed up to this point. Further, while pooling their resources, students will collaborate on an interdisciplinary topic and reflect on the topic through multiple cultural perspectives. Students in LVE 400 will incorporate the university value of Integrative Learning (lifelong learning) into their life experiences reflecting on how this university value connects to their own personal and career goals.
