Family is the representation and foundation of self. This unity of acceptance of each other respect unconditional sacrifices, love, and support is built through past, current, and future generations. The family goes beyond bloodlines and last names. We share similar beliefs and customs. Building strong family customs and traditions allows generations to use self-preservation of identity. Family means something different to each of us. We often adapt to family members which our family extends. Second, you should explain how your use of symbols, placement of family members, connecting lines, and boundaries represent the members of your family and particularly the relationships within the family. For my family genogram, I used a diagram that shows a pictorial display for those of my family.

The symbols I have chosen are squares and circles. My mother’s side of the family is far small. My father’s side has a huge family. There are huge add differences between his sibling. My father is the last born of the family. I placed an ‘X’ over those that have deceased as a symbol for their cross-over or homegoing. My mother and father were married for 5 years. My parents choose to divorce when I was only 2 years old. However, despite their divorce. My father remarried when I was at the age of 6. My father and my stepmother had two children by the time I was 10. I have a younger brother and sister on my father’s side. I also have a brother who is 16 years younger than me on my mother’s side by my mother’s ex-husband. I also showed my mother’s side of the family. I also showed my mother’s side of the family. I have 2 aunts and 1 uncle on my mother’s side with 4 cousins. Both of my grandparents on my mother’s side passed away in the early 80s. My grandmother on my father’s side was the only grandparent that I have ever lived to see. My grandfather passed away after I was born. On my father’s side, I have 1 uncle and 2 aunts. I have 3 cousins. I also showed my grandaunt and my great cousin that gave birth to my great cousins,3 generations, 5 in total which I consider close family. There are all around my age. I see my family as an open family. Both my mother’s side and father’s sides of the family value strong communication with each other. My mother’s side is willing to change or adapt. The problem with my father’s side of the family is that they are close-knitted which pulling away from family or setting boundaries from members that you may consider toxic can be seen as abandonment. For instance, my father took care of my uncle that got released from prison. My uncle ‘did not want to change, as my father stated. My father is the baby brother and he seems to have so much pressure to help and assist my uncle. My aunts were so upset that they felt as if my father was pulling away from them. Family involvement is excepted to be intense on my father’s side. A closed family system can be left unchanged. A closed family system can be strict in which family member implies that there everyone follows rules even though they are not appropriate or valuable to ones oneself. There is no flow of information in which family members tend to change which can hinder their growth. There are no new ideas that come into the system(Stern,2017). For instance, it is like living in a house with no windows are doors. People can not flourish. My mother and her sisters were adopted and raised by my great-grandparents in Louisiana. My uncle was raised by my grandmother and his father in California. Just like my father, my mother was the last born of her brother and sisters as well. My aunts were considered rebellious and often struggled with substance abuse. I have also heard stories in which my aunts were emotionally and physically abusive to one another. However, my great-parents ignored the abuse that took place. Despite my father’s and mother’s upbringing, I consider that my current family structure is known to be random. My father and mother both instill in me to value my own creativity and novelty. I always see myself in both of my parents, however, both of my parents encouraged me to value my own individuality. Random families can have problems with structure and boundaries if they are not alert or do not set permeable boundaries. The open family orients to the past, present, and future with the balance between continuity and change.
