One aspect of Juan Sanchez’s life involves the inclusion of a family picture celebrating his birthday as a toddler @4:04min in the video. The picture, to me, symbolizes a significant aspect of Juan Sanchez’s identity tied to his cultural and ethnic Afro-Latino/Afro-Boricua roots. I view the family picture as autobiographical because, in showcasing his family, the people who played a role in shaping his identity, Juan Sanchez is also revealing his connection to a mixed-race family lineage which is very common in Puerto Rico.

What images/sounds/music/words resonated with you?
The file Miyashiro_Junior_Image has the image I resonated with. Reason why I resonate with this image is because family is a major aspect of my life and has been a major influence to my life experiences. I’m also biracial too, I was born in Peru to a Peruvian mother and a father who is half Peruvian and Japanese but I was raised in New York for most of my life, so there are a lot of things i’m not familiar with in heritage.
If you could collaborate with Juan Sanchez, what would you add to this video to make it a dialogue between you and the artist?
If I were to collaborate with Juan Sanchez, I would incorporate a picture of my family and myself from my birthday. I envision placing it against a background featuring a mix of red and white to symbolize the colors of my flags (Peru and Japan), along with additional images of my flags. This composition would serve as a visual representation of the core aspects of my identity that I wish to communicate to him.
