Tourism Industry
Tourism industry is an effective economic boost to countries, which posses the various tourism attraction sites. This industry earns revenue from the charges levied on tourists as they visit attraction sites, as well as the sale of products and services to tourists. Tourism industry is affected significantly by climate.
This is because attraction sites are favorable for visiting in specific periods of the year (Akrani, 2011). This indicates that the industry may be regarded as a seasonal since it has peak and off-peak times. The peak and off-peak times are associated to the number of tourist visiting a country with the peak time having more tourists in comparison to off-peak time. Therefore, during peak times, the industry is able to earn more revenue.
Topography dictates the accessibility of tourist attraction sites. Hilly and mountainous areas attract more tourists in comparison to lowland areas. This illustrates that nations with a topography characterized by these features tend to receive more tourists than other areas.
Furthermore, the topography of a location dictates the ability of setting the required tourist attraction sites. Favorably topography ensures that more tourist attraction sites are available in comparison to unfavorable topography. In addition, topography encourages the performance of various business activities of tourism industry.
Horticultural Industry
Horticultural industry is actively involved in the production of flowers. As such, the production process of flowers is dictated by the climatic conditions. This is because the demand of flowers is seasonal. For example, during valentines’ season and other major events, which rely on flowers as event markers, the demand for flowers is high. Therefore, the horticultural industry has to produce more to meet this demand. Moreover, climatic conditions influence the transportation of the products of horticultural industry.
Topography also influences the business activities of this industry since the market segment for the industry is both local and international. Therefore, factors such as trade tariffs impact significantly the business activities of the horticultural industry. In addition, the location of the horticultural industry influences its ability to conduct business activities successfully. This is because some locations have adequate supply of labor while some locations have a limitation on supply of labor, which is needed for this industry.
Extraction Industry
Extraction industry deals with obtaining raw materials from water, air, and soil. These raw materials are then delivered to other industries where they are in demand. This industry is influenced by climatic conditions significantly.
This is because these conditions either favor the extraction process of the raw materials or discourage the extraction process of the raw materials. Favorable conditions leads to earning of more income due to an increment in the production, but unfavorable climate leads to a reduction of income earning due to a decline in production.
Topography also influences the business activities of the extraction industry. This occurs since costs are involved in the transportation, as well as clearance process of the raw material extraction location. As such, locations, which have a lower cost for the clearance process, lead to an increment in the earnings for the industry while locations with higher clearance costs increase the industry earnings.
Textile Industry
Textile industry deals with the manufacturing of clothes. As such, business activities of this industry are influenced significantly by climate. In cool climates, the industry tends to produce more of warming clothes while in the warm climate the industry tends to produce more of the cooling clothes. This illustrates that the prevailing climatic conditions determine the business activities of this industry significantly.
Topography is another factor, which influences the business activities of the textile industry. This is because topography dictates the cladding behavior of people, as well as the fashion trends. Therefore, textile industry has to take into consideration of these factors in order to ensure that it meets the demands and needs of customers within this market segment.
Construction Industry
Construction industry is involved in the establishment of various structures, which include canals, dams, roads, and buildings among others (Michaels, 2011). As such, construction industry is more productive in cases where favorable climatic conditions prevail.
For example, rainy and windy environments tend to discourage the process of construction. Consequently, the production output of the construction industry declines effectively. On the other hand, climatic conditions such as sunny periods create an opportunity for the construction industry to attain optimal production output.
Topography is key consideration for the construction industry. Flat areas encourage the construction industry to attain the desired success while hilly areas are discouraging to construction industry. This occurs since hilly areas lead to an additional cost to the construction industry on what needs to be done in order to reduce the areas to flat zones.
This is because construction industry considers the foundation of construction a key to permanency of the structure or building. In addition, flat zones encourage effective movement of materials while hilly areas discourage effective flow of materials. Movement of materials determines the additional cost to a construction industry, which in this case is the cost of transportation.
