This week’s discussion is all about collisions.
Hop on YouTube and find some video involving a collision that interests you. Some recommendations from me would be How Ridiculous (Links to an external site.), The Slow Mo Guys (Links to an external site.), and Stuff Made Here (Links to an external site.), but any video with any collision will work.Note: If you’re using a car accident or something similar, please make sure the video does not contain any gore before posting. Thanks!
Reply to this discussion with a link to the video, and a description of the collision observed. More importantly, describe how conservation of momentum can be observed in the video.Describing conservation of momentum can be tricky! Send me a message if you need any help.
Ideally a description would be describing the motion of inertia before and after the collision, and describing how those two are equal.
This can be hard, especially when it comes to an object crashing in to a wall and coming to a complete stop! In this case consider what the wall is attached to and the effects of that wall being hit. (If a car crashes in to a wall and the wall stands still, perhaps the whole world absorbs that hit… It might not be visible but momentum always conserves)

Reply to at least one other student to discuss their video. In your reply please explain how energy is conserved in the video.
Part of that explanation might be that kinetic energy is not conserved, part might be that some kinetic energy got turned in to potential energy, or that energy was radiated away from the collision.
