The podcast by Amie and Sara (2022) entitled “The Dark Side of Working in Healthcare: Violence towards Healthcare Workers,” discusses the increase in violence toward health care workers. The two presenters have a guest, Resa Lewis, who contributes to the topic by giving a narrative of how she has experienced and seen the violence perpetrated against healthcare workers. The three podcasters are concerned about increased violence against healthcare workers since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Most of the violence is committed at the workplace leading to severe injuries. It is said that healthcare professionals experience workplace injuries more than any professional as a result of violence at their place of work.

This occurrence has been reported by the American Hospital Association, which is concerned for the welfare of healthcare workers. Amie, Sara, and Dr. Resa believe this new phenomenon is pervasive and entails verbal and physical violence. Resa confesses that she has witnessed this type of violence in her profession. The nurses go deeper into the causes of such violence and point out the hostile environment to which healthcare professionals are exposed. Many fall victims to hostile and aggressive patients and their families and are forced to withstand verbal and physical attacks at the workplace. The experience has left many healthcare providers with mental health issues, while others have been admitted to hospitals due to physical bodily injuries caused by attacks on them. It is an exciting and informatics podcast to listen to and gives the tribulations encountered by healthcare workers in the line of duty.

The podcast was surprising because it exposed an area of concern that remains hidden from public eyes. It is an expose that highlighted a critical aspect in the profession that needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency. The issue highlights the need for conflict resolution training for nurses to help reduce incidences of violence against them by patients.
