The rate of unemployment in the United States has been going up following the global economic crisis of 2008. Most companies have stopped hiring employees because it is no longer economically viable. The US government has been working on the issue of unemployment to reduce its rate and further growth. Various sectors of the United States economy suffered great loss during the financial crisis leading to the increased rate of unemployment. The US government has been on the vanguard to take up unemployment to provide jobless benefits to people who have not yet found jobs. The US democrats stated that financing jobless benefits is a means of boosting the economy and assisting the jobless people who are struggling in the economy (Taylor, 2010, 1).
This essay discusses in depth the study of unemployment take-up in the United States and how the study was conducted.
The study on unemployment take up involves finding out the unemployed persons and coming up with means of offering them some unemployment benefits. According to Campbell. (2010, 1), unemployment take up program seeks to ensure favorable distribution of opportunities in the country. The study of unemployment takes up also considers the supply and demand of opportunities to both men women to ensure fair distribution.
The other points include the wages offered and the reaction of the employees to these wages. The rate of unemployment increase may be caused by the negative reaction of people towards the wages offered in the market. People can decline employment opportunities due to low wages offered and poor working conditions. The take-up program in this case should aim at ensuring better wages are given to the workers.
The unemployment studies were conducted in the US with the object to help the unemployed get some unemployment benefits. This also increases the economic performance of the country. According to Bolton (2010, 1), unemployment benefits were available to people who have looked for jobs for 26 weeks to no avail. Bolton proposed that these benefits be extended and reduce the taxes payable on them. This will help improve the living standards of the people in the economy.
There is also an attempt to eliminate child labor and forced labor. Offering unemployment benefits will enable the unemployed people to be able to provide for their families thus reducing the likelihood of child labor or forced labor cases in the economy. This will help improve the performance of the economy as the labor force will constitute the qualified people and those willing to work under the current economic conditions.
The US senate is formulating a job creation bill in an attempt to reduce unemployment. This bill will target small businesses, infrastructure projects, and other projects that will reduce the rate of unemployment like funding the public services which offers several job opportunities. Funding small businesses will help reduce unemployment as many people will be self-employed and others will be employed in those small businesses. The rate of unemployment is also increased where more people are self-employed and the economy therefore improves.
The take up of unemployment is beneficial because it will enable the living standard of people to increase and contributes to the general performance of the economy. Small business funding ensures that more people are self-employed and the rate of unemployment is reduced. More measures like the insurances of unemployment should be encouraged as they improve the status of the employed.
