One of the biggest violations in modern world is discrimination. I decided to write about this problem because I have seen many situations when person was discriminated by race. If we want to talk about this topic, we have to know what is discrimination? It is a shameful and terrible phenomenon which should not happen in modern world. Often when a person apply for a job, he can face discrimination that can base on many reasons: gender, religion, language, sexual orientation and race . Unfair treatment of employees because of their gender or race are the most common types of discrimination. Some people can’t get equal treatment in work because, for example, the person is a female or immigrant and it effects whole workplace. One of main reasons of this is stereotyping.

The article of Khan discusses the problem of sex discrimination in the United Kingdom. This article focused on discrimination of females in British workplace. There is public opinion, hat employers don’t like to hire women, pay them a lot and when it comes to promotion, they’ll prefer to promote a man than a woman. This article proves this point. Many women in UK still have opinion if they leave cause of maternity or motherhood, it decreases their chances to get promoted. More than the half females still got discriminated by sex in their workplaces. Furthermore, Khan found out that 27 percent of females’ employees will not hire the woman of childbearing age. Moreover, 19 per cent of surveyed woman feel that they are not getting promotion because of maternity leave and 26 per cent thinks that the fact that they are having children held them back in their work career. This source is useful cause it shows that sex discrimination still exist in a workplaces

Bobbitt-Zeher, Donna. “Gender Discrimination at Work.” Gender & Society, vol. 25, no. 6, 5 Dec. 2011, pp. 764–786., doi:10.1177/0891243211424741.

The research conducted by Bobbitt-Zeher examine why discrimination exist in a workplace and why does this discrimination affect women. The research was design with Ohio Civil Rights Commission from 1988 to 2003. One the reasons why woman got affected by discrimination is a gender stereotyping. Society’s view of the role of women in a business world. Often, such discrimination is expressed in the unwillingness to hire females to avoid additional costs if the woman will be pregnant. Research showed that role of wives and mothers make females “less invested” and “less reliable workers”. Employees firstly look at women workers as a women first, not as a workers. Moreover, gender bias works against women. Firstly ,it is a aggression against women without any underlying rationale ,secondly, the opinion that some women are potential liabilities .This source is useful because it shows the reasons why women get discriminated in a workplace. Moreover ,this is the difference between previous topic and this topic. Current topic focused more on the reasons of discrimination ,not facts of it.

Gregory, Raymond F. Age Discrimination in the American Workplace : Old at a Young Age. Rutgers University Press, 2001. EBSCOhost, search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=nlebk&AN=91052&site=ehost-live&scope=site.

The book of Gregory Raymond examine age stereotyping in a workplace. The are two types of people who are influenced by age discrimination. First group is people who younger than 18 and people who 50+. And this book talks about old people. This is the biggest group of people that affected by discrimination and book explains why .When person becomes older than 50, from now, it doesn’t matter what is your religion, gender, sexual orientation or nationality, anyway you will be affected by age discrimination. Usually in every sphere of our social life, employees give preference to young people that to old people. As Raymond stated, employers usually make decisions that effect old worker because of the stereotyping and the way of their thinking about old people. Employees often assume that older worker are not longer capable of performing adequately. The reason of this is a stereotype that it is much harder to train old person than young person and adapt him to a new technology process. As a result, employees are trying to remove job applicant over a certain age. I find this article useful because of the large amount of information

“Ageism in the Workplace.” Monster.ca, 16 May 2019, https://hiring.monster.ca/employer-resources/recruiting-strategies/strategic-workforce-planning/ageism-workplace-canada/.

Article of Barbara Jaworski talks about ageism in a workplace in North America. Author shows the reasons why people who’s age more than 45 got discriminated and why this is not right and where ageism exist. As usual, one of the biggest reason of discrimination is stereotyping. The stereotypes that old workers are not creative, less innovative and less energetic. Furthermore, this article refutes some of the claims and gives arguments in favor of old people. For example , according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics , workers from 45-54 usually stay on the job twice as long as young workers. The strength of this source is a describing the reasons of age discrimination.

To conclude, discrimination on the workplace is very important problem in our world . I believe that elimination of discrimination on workplace is important step to help to remove discrimination in other areas of our society. It will not disappear by itself. This problem should be solved at government level.
