The risks associated with the introduction of new systems in healthcare are quite an urgent problem. The main goal of innovation is to improve the provision of medical care to patients and make the work of clinical staff more effective. Moreover, the introduction of new systems into the process of assistance helps to make medicine more progressive and modern. Often, in addition to positive consequences, when introducing any innovations, negative ones may also arise. Consideration and provision for possible errors is an integral part of the process of applying a new system to the healthcare sector.
Therefore, the first problem of introducing innovations in healthcare can be singled out. The first problem is the lack of demand for new technologies due to the insufficient level of qualification of specialists. In most cases of introducing innovations into the work of a medical institution, medical personnel faces a lack of knowledge about it. Lack of proper training can lead to improper use of technology (Wager et al., 2017). This fact can lead not only to the inefficiency of attracting new aspects but can also harm patients. Another risk may be financial costs when attracting innovations to the work of clinical staff. Due to the inefficiency of implementing changes, a medical hospital can only lose money without being able to improve the provision of services.
Contingency and fallback plans are important to the system implementation strategy and the actual use because they can guarantee safety and reliability to the medical organization. Gupta and Sinha (2019) state that “risk contingency management is defined as creating an appropriate provision to ensure the project is in the required timeframe and with the best value for money” (p. 61). Thus, the preparation of such plans can warn the organization against possible financial risks and dangers associated with the health of patients (Řeháček, 2017). They will help to assess in detail all possible outcomes of the new technology and weigh all the negative and positive sides.
Thus, the introduction of new systems into the work of organizations providing medical care is a necessary factor. This helps it become more modern and provide its services more successfully. However, it is necessary to remember that the introduction of innovations may entail certain risks, such as, for example, financial losses and inefficiency of work. To combat them, it is vital for organizations to develop a special fallback plan to avoid negative consequences.
