Introduction

Sociology is the study of human relationship with other beings which is usually very complex. People interact in the home at work and on other social gatherings. The way a person behaves is related to their character. In most cases sociology groups these traits as virtues and vices. Virtues are good deeds while vices are bad deeds that are socially unacceptable. Just like any other thing in life, virtues and vices have pros and cons. (Chris, 2008)

Personality in a person can impact the way one behaves around others or when in seclusion. Having an acceptable character enables one to fit into society which means relationship with self and others is promising and tolerable. This impacts the society positively. Having a blunt character can be of an advantage as well as a disadvantage to the person. People that are frank with themselves tend to do the same with society and it is usually credited to them by having most people not prejudicing them. (Fairbanks, 1896)

A blunt personality is adopted from a belief in virtues that are morally correct. These compel a person to act and talk with integrity as it is a part of their lives. In the observation of human behavior, it has been found that people who are frank tend to be trusted with social responsibilities. Integrity creates belief and reception as truth is expected from an integral person. These types of people speak bluntly without fear or favor. In most homes and professions, integrity is practiced or encouraged to promote unity and understanding. (Chris, 2008)

Body

My personality can be summed up as of honesty in my dealing with people at home and outside. My character has not been accepted positively by all in the workplace. The workplace is where people thrive in shortcuts in work and under deals to short change the employer and/or the customer. This has led to loss of friendships and a cold shoulder from my colleagues; however, management prefers my honesty and responds by giving me most of the tasks to perform. The payment is on commissions and I earn a great deal out of my sincere work. At home I keep things in truth and it has led to our family leading a happy and cheerful life. (Fairbanks, 1896)

To others my bluntness may be considered a problem as they cannot associate me with their corrupt deals and time wasting. This has affected my social relationship with my workmates who are the majority and we interact while working. I have had people play pranks on me parting a bad mood. However people perceive my personality as a problem, it is to them and not to me. The sad part is that I get to feel left out in conversations and alienated without many friends to socialize with. I do not get to go for outings as in picnics and hiking which are some of my hobbies. (Breakthrough consulting Inc, 2008)

Most of the time I do not mean any harm to my friends but I realize that an offence has occurred. This troubles me and I apologize and say I was only trying to make it better for them at the workplace. Few of my friends sit down with me to point out where I have offended them. This helps me a lot and I feel better vowing to watch my words next time. (Chris, 2008)

When I am at home with the family a feeling of security engulfs me. My personality at home keeps the mood just right for conversation and winding down after a tiresome day at work. I have a lovely family that makes me see the benefits of being frank in what I do and say. I like how the Asians talk bluntly when in a family setting they do not hide their heart feelings on an issue. I try using it at home as a flatter, only to keep the member away and they do not involve me in conversations at times. I might point out at a member’s weight yet it is a problem the member is not happy to have. This statement is as an observation but if put bluntly it hurts more. Being frank with my extended family has also caused a lot of friction between us. (Breakthrough consulting Inc, 2008)

Relatives are people you do not see every day and when they visit I tend to comment on their age weight and other personal issues that make them feel I have invaded their privacy. I sometimes feel that I should keep my opinion to myself but my nature gets the best of me. When making comments or observations, it is never intended to hurt but to instruct. I do not see myself changing my character but will surely bend it to benefit my social life. (Chris, 2008)

Conclusion

Blunt character can be good and sometimes it can be bad. In a world where people thrive in corruption and other morally unacceptable dealings, to be frank can cost one a lot in terms of social affiliation. As much as truth is a virtue, majority of the people would rather lie than tell the truth. This has led to society making dishonest choices therefore harming others in turn. Some great people have stood by the truth and have swayed many to accept the truth, but it comes at an expense.

It is said that the truth is always bitter. In a society with such statements talking truth will always be considered indifferent. My bluntness has had a toll in my life throughout and sometimes I regret but love it when it comes to my integrity.
