Introduction
Like any other field of activity, medicine has specific standards that staff should adhere to. There are also rules for nurses, which make the professionals more qualified in their work. These rules relate primarily to the ability of the health worker to communicate freely with those who need help. CLAS standards intersect with expectations that there are no language barriers for nurses, and our colleagues are improving their language and cultural competence for better communication with patients, but it is necessary to simulate information materials in the most common languages.
Discussion
The first and primary standard of CLAS concerns the need for staff to provide effective and quality care in preferred languages and a cultural manner of communication. Safe and competent nursing care is more than saving a patient’s life (Tønnessen et al., 2020). Other standards include the selection of qualified staff and management and the constant maintenance of their level of competence, facilitating further training. These norms apply to professional nursing practices, where worker-patient understanding can be vital in the treatment process.
My colleagues and I are actively developing our skills to meet the standards of nursing care. These standards refer to language competence, which has no limits to perfection and can be continuously improved. For example, I study basic expressions related to work in the most common languages to provide urgent help and support communication. This factor is significant for the patient because their recovery depends on their psychological condition.
To increase the cultural competence of nurses in our department, it is a good idea to introduce accessible materials for patients in different languages. It can be various booklets, checklists, or multimedia materials with other subtitles, which will provide the patient with the most comfortable treatment. Safe and competent nursing care will help patients understand what needs to be done when they need care (Tønnessen et al., 2020). Thus, expanding the language framework can significantly simplify the healing process and make it more enjoyable.
Conclusion
In conclusion, CLAS standards intersect with professional nursing practices in many aspects of effective patient care. My colleagues and I regularly improve their linguistic competence and strive to make the treatment of people as comfortable as possible by providing them with quality assistance. However, improving the provision of multilingual resources to patients is possible, and they can quickly find answers to their questions.
