In our life, as said by Michelle L. Casto, it is not our job that changed, but it is our career. Of course, there are lots and lots of job applications to followed and to be apply, but do we really have the in interest and put our all in what we apply to? That is why a career is far different that a typical job itself. Career is when we put our interest, efforts and our capabilities onto. Let’s say that you are majoring in accounting, you learn it for four years in your faculty, and with that number of years learning without a doubt of course we want a career that suits our capabilities and interest. Something that have its own career development. Changing jobs is not consider as changing career, because career is something that we give our best into.

Most of people change their jobs too often, most likely five to 8 times in their own life. Career development is something that we must manage and focus into. Career development is important for us because it ensure us to stay in our spot and never have second thoughts about what we are doing. To be particular, career development come in their own stages that we need to focus and look into, by focusing on the stages of the career development, we can see and highlighted what suits us best with workers and clients and also on what part that can give us the best confidence in our career so that we will stay and continue to give the best of what we can and improving ourselves day by day.

A career development stages consist of six stages that we can follow and build our career. There are assessment, investigation, preparation, commitment, retention, and transition. These six stages are what help us in order to become professionals in our careers.

Assessment Stage

Prepare and ready for out life’s work. In this stage, we do not know on what is our best talent is and we are unaware of what we can give best to ourselves and to the community, from here, we tend to feel confuse and maybe we need help from others to help us in guiding to search a career that is perfect for us. Therefore, it is best for us to seek some guidance from professionals such as counselor or maybe a career coach. Some companies even give some trials to those who seek for job careers. They gave training to people that really want to pursue further in what they want. By the end of the training and some consultations, we may find ourselves easy and now know what to seek for to develop our career further. For people that does not have any confidence in having a meeting with a counselor or a career coach, do not worry because there always some test being held out online where we can take some assessment instruments to help us, there are various types of assessments instruments to help us through our search in finding our right career to pursue. As what they folklore used to say, when there’s a will there is always a way. Do not afraid that we may be left behind, there is always a solution for those who maybe that too shy, no confidence or maybe does not have enough expense to provide them some consultations from a counselor or maybe a career trainer. But of course, it all comes to three things to be highlighted, by the end of the assessment stage, we finally know our values, strengths and our weaknesses.

Investigation Stage

After going through the assessment stage, we know that in this world there are so many work and jobs applications also we realized that there are also some careers that we can pursue to. From this stage we are indeed know nothing and indeed in aa state of confusion. We know nothing about what to pursue and indeed oblivious. One thing for sure, we do know our values, strengths, weaknesses and also our capabilities. Learning from the assessment stage, it is always good to always have a positive mind in knowing ourselves better. That is because in the investigation stage, we must always keep a positive mind and look at the bright side of the future. Take focus on this stage and learn about the modern world of work functions. What we have now is not as the same to what we experience before, so it is wise for us to take focus, do some research and learn about what is new about our current world. Keeping a positive picture can help us to know and realize that there are many ways to consider, chances and also possibilities for us to go further. It is wise to always do some research and keep on track in the world of work. Know our strengths and weaknesses so that we can always focus and never being left behind. Gaining some confidence that we have learn from the first stage, how about conducting some interviews informally with people from the field that you choose? This can help you to hear some thoughts and suggestions from people that is experienced and well-known about their field of work.

Preparation Stage

Having a job career we want, we finally come to something that we truly can give our most effort into. In this stage we are preparing and getting ready to do our work. Indeed, having the job we want as a career is truly the best feeling ever. Therefore, we can give our best in doing something we like and love the most. yes, of course having the best jobs as a career makes us think how great and wonderful it is to be able to give and presenting a very meaningful work for ourselves and towards the community. Note that we must first know that having a wonderful job as a career is not an easy task, we will always have so much work to be done and this acts as a new experience in life. We may know how to do it, but can we handle a workload of task that have been assign to us? That’s of course we must always be ready and prepared for what is come to us in order to become successful. To make sure that we are ready and always be prepared, we must first make sure to be proactive, doing the task given before the boss asked us for it. On top of that, as someone who is new in the field, it is wise for us to gain some knowledge about it by looking at the seniors in our field of work, yes, without a doubt it’ll make us gain some experience along the way. while gaining some experience, of course we can make up some goals and plan a thinking of success.

Commitment Stage

Passing the previous stages of career development, we are here on the commitment stage. Here, we feel and gain some confidence in thinking of what we want to do. That’s because we finally get a gist of what to do first and what to do after that. Sometimes, having a designated task doesn’t mean that we are able to handle the task thoroughly, that is because they know how to do it but some do not know how to commit, for example, if the task requires some groupwork and some discussion, some of the groupmates and also workers also acquaintances does not want to participate and leave us to handle the work alone. With that being said, we must keep on track by focusing our spirit and keep our vision clear on the target to make sure we are on the right track. To making sure that this is going well, we need to make a job search, learning about it can help us to gain more knowledge and experiences from it. We also must accept any job offers that is being given to us.

Retention Stage

We almost at the end of the stage, but it is not the end yet. Noted that in the retention stage is when we are now feeling sheltered and comfortable in our career field. At this point of time, we start to be more alert and more focused than usual. We can do perform our work more perfectly and swiftly better than usual. This is because we finally know how things work in our field of work. In the industry we working at, things become even more easier because we are familiar with the work and task that have been given to us and all. On this point of time, it is best for us to stay in our spot and be committed towards our career and keep improving our skills and keep on track at all times with the industry regulations. Always be low-key at all time, like the old folklore used to say, better safe than sorry. As we reach this point of time, might as well provide some awesome customer service abilities and also provide some professional network to grow.

Transition Stage

Alright then, finally the last stage of career development. Yes, the transition stage. In this stage, a person may find it difficult sometimes. They may felt disturb and insecure on what to do after all that has been going. They may be wonder about does we truly feel happy in what we do and what comes next after this. In this stage it is advisable to make a plan and think of doing some changes, a conscious change in career next step. From here, why don’t we think about what to change in our field of career, try thinking of something that can be improved and making some changes with it. We can also develop some resiliency along the way, making us be flexible in any way around. Therefore, whatever being thrown at us is like a doodle to us.

Conclusion

In conclusion, there always a skip ahead in following each and every stage, some may start from the early stage, some may even start through the middle stage and others. This career development stage helped us to realize and gather some information about ourselves, our field of work and the world of work as we progress through our career choices. No matter what choices we made in deciding our career, we will always enter or maybe re-enter these six stages of career development.
