Self-concept is who we think we are, the picture we have of ourselves plus the picture we think others have of us. Self-concept plays an important part in our overall wellness. It affects the ways we look at our body, how we express ourselves and interact with our friends and it even influences how we make decisions.
Self-esteem
A major reason why self-concept might be unrealistic is that you may be believing what others tell you. Criticism doesn’t just hurt you it may also affect your concept of who you are. Others might tell you, for example, that you do not treat them well or behave badly in certain situations. Are they telling the truth or is this just an opinion? Always think carefully about what someone says and whether or not you should take it as constructive criticism or ignore it. I think most of us have some beliefs about ourselves which are based on criticism we have received and that may not be true. If these beliefs are negative such aspects of self-concept 2ill affect your self-esteem negatively. It is important therefore for you to consider carefully what your self-beliefs are and if they are true. Once you have a better understanding of your self-concept you will be able to affect your self-esteem positively.
Academic ability
One of the most significant factors responsible for students’ academic performance is their self-concept. If students are expected to perform well in their examinations, a positive self-concept is sinc quanon. Academic self-concept posits that it has two levels and relates to how well we do in school or how well we learn while the first level deals with the general academic self-concept of how good one is in all subjects, and the other has to do with a set of specific content related to self-concept that describes how good one is in mathematics, science, social studies, and English language. According to the frame of reference model academic self-concept will depend on the student’s academic ability and the ability level of other students within the same class. When a student perceives himself as the best in class he tends to hold a positive self-concept of himself.
Motivation
The energizing and directive behind human behavior determines the quantity and quality of our actions. It is shaped and driven by an individual’s unique composition of internal and external motives including biological, physiological, psychological, cognitive, and environment forces. Motivation energies and directs an individual to work out who they are(self-assessment), create a consistent and accurate hierarchy of self-schemas(self-verification), and enable control and psychological well-being (self-enhancement). The purpose of the self-concept therefore reflects the human tendency to seek consistency, control, and predictability over their attitudes, emotions, and behaviors.
Interaction with peers
People who have a positive sense of self-concept which is similar to self-esteem are noticeably better at maintaining successful relationships. Having good relationships with peers and meaningful friendships can help protect a person from difficult life events. A significant loss of the daily challenges of transitioning into adolescence or adulthood the break up of a relationship and financial stress can be made easier with the support of friends. Peer relationships have even been shown to protect individuals from the negative effects of not having a close relationship with their parents. Peers can have a great influence on the way that you behave. If you are surrounded by positive people you will have more opportunities to do healthy activities, make good decisions, and see the bright side of things. On the other hand, toxic friends can be a bad influence by putting pressure on you to do things that are destructive or unhealthy when you don’t know who you are and what you want whereby their constant criticism and negativity can lead you to doubt yourself and lower your self-esteem.

Also made her lose focus on her ability to relax in class where she doesn’t know the capability of other students. Perception of other teachers and others’ criticism will make her believe the criticism is true about herself since she is already weak therefore this will make her have a negative self-concept and will no longer focus on the positive side of things.
