Linda Thomas-Greenfield devoted her report to the UN Charter and human security issues, including the inviolable rights of people. The main points of her speech were Russia’s military aggression and invasion of the territory of Ukraine, the defense of the UN Charter and goals for the future. First of all, Linda Thomas-Greenfield focused on the fact that in recent years the Council regulated disputes between countries. However, open conflict could not be avoided (Remarks by Ambassador, par. 17). In this regard, all member countries should aim to hold Russia accountable, as the country has violated the fundamental principles of the UN and human security.

Another main point was the explanation that, at the moment, the UN is helping not only Ukraine but upholding and defending the Charter. Moreover, it is a matter of strengthening people’s faith in the viability of the Union and its good mission. To do this, member countries must come together to improve world security and problems of poverty and put people, their needs and rights at the center (Remarks by Ambassador, par. 24). In this case, the Union will be able to successfully protect innocent people from the invasion of their territories and prevent the escalation of conflicts.

Additionally, the speech touched upon the basic principles that guide the UN. The main goal pursued by the unification of independent countries is the protection of human rights throughout the planet (Remarks by Ambassador, par. 6). This applies not only to the peoples of the member countries but to those nations whose rights are constantly violated. Besides, the UN Council stands up for the maintenance of international security and world peace. In this regard, they strictly adhere to reducing nuclear weapons and signing settlement documents.

Another important standards of the Council are the provision of humanitarian assistance to all countries that request it. In this case, members continue to uphold the human right to life and food. Moreover, the Council provides sustainable development assistance, which is especially relevant for poorer countries (Remarks by Ambassador, par. 30). Finally, the UN advocates respect for international law and the consideration of global issues on the agenda. Global problems include climate change, poverty and food security, which require constant monitoring.

In addition to the above, the speaker mentioned that the UN is currently facing a crisis of confidence. This concerns international security, which has been greatly shaken since the Russian invasion. Since the main point of the UN is the protection of people, the outbreak of war aroused people’s suspicions about how much the Council could provide for their safety. As a result, all countries should come together to decide on the most relevant ways to end the conflict.

With regard to personal reflection, the UN is doing a great job in protecting human rights. First of all, this is due to the constant legal and food assistance for the countries of the first world. The United Nations protect and represent the interests of those unable to establish successful development themselves for economic reasons. Moreover, thanks to unions, disputes are regulated, as it acts as a kind of forum for discussing global issues and dissatisfaction. In the context of the speech, one can fully agree with Thomas-Greenfield, since, in the current realities, all countries face an issue of the security of the modern generation and future inhabitants of the planet. Thus, all diplomatic forces should be aimed at regulating conflicts and preventing their escalation.
