Introduction

Schindler’s list was acted from the book Schindler’s Ark in the year I993. Schindler’s Ark is a fiction novel published in I982 by Thomas Keneally. The film was issued among the commonwealth countries with the title already changed from Schindler’s Ark to Schindler’s List. Steven Spielberg produced the movie after being written by Steven Zaillian. It took Spielberg seventy-two days to shoot the whole film in black and white. The film was shot in the actual places where Oskar Schindler resided and where the factory was situated. The main aim of this film was for education. Spielberg wanted to capture student’s attention about the holocaust because it had been ignored for so many years. Most of the students treated it as just footnotes in their textbooks or did not mention it at all. Spielberg wanted to teach people about truth and tolerance and that there will be a lot of hatred in the world in the days to come. To make this effective, they distributed this film across schools with the help of the government.

Comparison of the film with WWI and WWII

The film shows how the Jewish people suffered physical abuse, and some of them got killed. These minor violations were petty, for example, the boy who failed to clean Goths’ tub. The same way in the assassination of people in the concentration camps was merciless. They killed the people with petty reasons or without reason at all. The only girl who was dressed in red showed the closing of the Krakow ghetto. Later in the film, Schindler sees her body as recognizable because of her unique coat. It was used to show that the government and other stakeholders in America’s government knew the coming of the holocaust, yet they did nothing to prevent it from occurring. The government knew the coming of the war and the damage it would cause, but they did nothing to stop it. The opening film is about a family keeping the Sabbath, where they remembered the biblical stories of creation. Spielberg said that it was essential to have the candles lit during this service before the judgment against the Jews begins.

The candles fade away at the beginning of the film and give out smoke to the world. The smoke symbolizes the burnt bodies of the citizens and the soldiers during WWI and WWII at Auschwitz. Spielberg allows his worker to light candles and conduct the Shabbat services (Klobassa and Laker 62). The warmth from the candles and light depicted that there was the hope of ending the war. The shooting of the whole film in black and white represented the basics of World War I. The black reveals the rampant killing of the people and the pain left with those who lost their loved ones.

Conclusion

The producers wanted the film at the factory because Schindler’s residence was carried out in his everyday life. The camp was also significant because most people were killed, and it was in this place, Schindler’s workers were made slaves. The last scene took place in Jerusalem because the Jews resided here to get a grip of the tradition. I will recommend this book to another group because it shows the importance of fighting for the common good. Spielberg also says at the end that anyone who saves one man saves the whole world. The film shows what happened during the war. Spielberg was permitted to film in the camp, but he filmed outside to give a clear view of what was left after the massacre.
