I. Attention Getter:
Picture yourself on a camping trip in one of California’s beautiful woodland area. All around are trees,
bushes, hills, and green grass. Nothing but you, nature…, and killers. Hiding out in the bushes, just
waiting for you to come close enough so they can jump on you. These killers are ticks.
II. Reveal the Topic:
You need to know about Lyme disease so you can take preventative measures. Someday you may
contract Lyme disease and you should know what the symptoms are and know how to quickly act. I
have done extensive research on Lyme disease and that is why I am knowledgeable on this subject.

1. Your speech should be 4-6 minutes in length. If the speech goes either under or over
this time, you will be deducted 2 points per minute.
2. You are encouraged to pick a topic that is unique and/or previously unknown to most
members of the audience. Your main objective is to inform your audience. The speech
can be a form of a “how-to” speech or a person, place or thing, organization. (e.g., How
to apply forscholarships online, three places to take a date in Hollywood for under $25,
the celebration of Vietnamese New Year, how the pencil was invented).
3. The content included in the speech should be appropriate for both the stated time limit
and your audience.
4. It is mandatory that you use at least three different sources cited in the outline as in-text
citation, vocally cited in yourspeech, and listed on works cited page at the end of your
outline on separate page.
Works Cited page must include three (3) credible sources. All other sources should be
from a credible database, such as, EBSCOHost or ProQuest. You will not receive credit
