We all exist in society and are always surrounded by people. We can see them going to work or spending time with their children on the playground. Each of them has his or her role, which presupposes a range of duties. To meet the expectations of others and achieve success within a particular role, one takes responsibility for personal actions and well-being as well as for those that refer to people who depend on this individual. It means that if a person neglects to be responsible, adverse effects will influence not only his/her life but also the lives of others. Responsibility includes “aspects of morals, of action, and consideration of the consequences of action: a human acts responsibly when she or he is acting concerning ethical and moral points of view and accepts that she or he shall be accountable for the consequences of her or his acts” (Auhagen and Bierhoff 63).
Soon after we are born, our parents start teaching us to take responsibility for the actions we conduct. They underline the necessity of this quality, as it always follows us (“Responsibility is Taken, Respect is Earned” par. 2). At school, we are to attend classes and study hard. Those who play truant and receive bad marks are punished. Diligent and responsible students often have more perspectives. They are better treated by teachers and have good relationships with their parents. Those who take responsibility prepossess people around them, as they are reliable. They are ready to make effective decisions because they can evaluate the situation regarding the priorities and find out possible consequences (“Champions of Character” 3).
In everyday life, people can show that they are responsible for speaking up. If something goes wrong, and one can influence the situation, he/she should not be afraid to be the first to act. The responsibility that is taken for the right behavior is not likely to bring negative outcomes. On the contrary, one will feel inspired, which can help to recover quickly from possible mistakes. The initiative is a great quality for those who are ready to take charge of their actions. Moreover, the acceptance of responsibility can be seen in simple and routine behavior. For example, when we invite a person to our place on Monday at 6 p.m., it means that we make ourselves responsible for being at home at that time and for trusting his individual, etc. (Heller 125).
Responsibility is also important within the working framework. Diligent employees are highly valued in the workplace. They do not have problems with the superiors. They are likely to be promoted, as they treat the norm of responsibility seriously and do their best to show that they are ready to deal with more complicated tasks (Ross and Miller 193). Becoming a leader, one maintains “a balance of between getting the right results and getting results the right way” (Wells par.1). This person takes charge of the actions conducted by the whole group, so he/she will not neglect the duties.
Responsibility is extremely valued while dealing with family life. A couple shows that they are ready to make themselves responsible for the well-being of each other as well as for their children. In this case, neglecting responsibilities can ruin the family and affect all its members.
Thus, it occurs to be clear that responsibility plays an enormous role in the life of every person. It is an essential quality that is to be always maintained. Only being responsible people can achieve their goals and become respected.
