Assignment Description
For this assignment, you will submit an annotated bibliography of your chosen capstone research question. Usually completed as a foundational step to completing a literature review, an annotated bibliography should gather together and provide insight into the sources you have found that you will include in your literature review about the topic being investigated.
Its purpose is to provide a preview of the sources you plan to draw from in your literature review and show how each source provides insight into addressing your research question.
The purpose of this assignment is to provide an opportunity for you to:
1. Develop a focused research question for your capstone research;
2. Search for and locate peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary health science literature using library and database resources;
3. Analyze information found in peer-reviewed journal articles;
4. Organize new knowledge into an APA style annotated bibliography.
Assignment Requirements
Your annotated bibliography must:
• Articulate your research question as its title;
• Include at least 10-12 peer-reviewed journal articles related to your research question;
• Sources should be from the past 10-15 years (published 2009 or later)
• More sources are welcome and would enhance your literature review.
• Secondary sources such as a publication from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) can be used, but these would not count towards the 4 peer-reviewed journal article minimum.
• For each source listed, you should provide:
• Its reference listing in APA style;
• A paragraph written below the reference listing that includes:
• A 2-3 sentence summary of the study and conclusions from this article;
• Important data/details from this article that are relevant to your research question and will be included in your literature review (2-3 sentences;
• Unique elements, limitations, or questions that you noted about this study/ article, which may be included in your literature review (1-2 sentences).
• All annotations MUST be your original writing and/or paraphrased from research articles. No part of the annotated bibliography may be quoted or taken directly from the article itself.
• Be formatted in APA style (headings format, ordered alphabetically, double-spaced, indented properly, etc.).
