This PowerPoint I will discuss and explore the main four key points which are my skills, my current knowledge used in the online world, my goals in the learning unit and set goals at the end of the course. I am a fulltime educator, second in charge at an early learning centre and also a fulltime online student studying Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary). I have decided to do my studies through Swinburne online as it allows for flexibility in my learning and fit into my busy lifestyle, the purpose of this PowerPoint: introducing me, the online learner.

Completing activity from the first week – Dream Careers and read the (Future Works Skills, 2020). I gained transferable skills in my workplace and online learning. The areas of expertise I bring to this course is organisation skills and problem-solving. Working as an educator, managing a team and dealing with families, I find that both organisation and problem-solving skills are highly significant. In my workplace, I have been able to come up with solutions in a systematic manner as I evaluate information and use problem-solving to handle the issue and meet family needs. Living in another state with a time difference to Swinburne online university and working fulltime. Therefore, I have made the choice to become an online learner to manage and allocate appropriate study load to suit my lifestyle. The organisation and problem-solving skills I hold have come from growing in my workplace and gaining experience to strengthen my skills and understand my learning through the tool Success Profile and student planner on the Swinburne online portal to stay organised. As an educator, if the organisation and problem-solving is lacked in your daily life, study and workplace this will only break the daily procedures, routines and students learning process.

I have recently been introduced to the online learning environment as I moved to an online learning environment. I now have great knowledge of how collaboration works in online learning, which is a known concept of the flipped classroom. Collaboration is a flexible tool used to study at your own pace and time, but disruption can be caused as online learners can withdraw from discussion boards, lectures and online classroom. Students need to have a positive outlook on their learning, as it prepares you to become committed in your learning and participate in all learning groups, by sharing your ideas and learning with other online learners (Kear. K, 2012). When collaborating with other online students it is suggested as a crucial component which is to positive and successful online learners. Another important skill used for online learners is the use of a credible source, which I’m not too confident in this skill. As a new online learner in this environment, I am determined to use a credible source in my assignment and learning and make sure my work is reliable information given to the reader, relevant and recent, rather than gathering unreliable information.

My unit goals are some areas I need to become a confident online learner. My unit goals are strength higher academic writing skills and better time management to balance and meet needs. My goal at the end of this unit is to become a confident learner to reflect, analyse, use correct grammar and use of the credible source to back up my research with strong evidence will help me achieve a higher academic level. As an online learner, I will be using the online tool ‘studiosity’ to receive guidance and support to meet the higher academic level, (Swinburne Online, 2018). Gaining courage and confidence in my learning will develop positive study behaviour to support better time management to use time wisely and meet study hours for the unit.

After reflecting on the ‘dream Careers’ activity, I am now confident in gaining knowledge and develop skills to further my learning confidence and finish this course to reach my dream career. Even though I’m a fulltime educator but I would like to grow in this industry and become confident when delivering a lesson. I use most of the skills required to teach as my job requirements as an early childhood educator. At the end of this course, I would like to continue and develop all skills to become a confident and great teacher which carries out successfully lessons. I hope to develop a great understanding of the Australian curriculum and the use of the early years learning framework (EYLF), to use positive learning outcome and structure appropriate lesson plan.
