Each case of a child with disabilities requires a thorough examination and an individually tailored approach. For this intervention, a student with dyslexia was selected due to the self-perceptions that gave them anxiety leading to deteriorating grades. Such children often require emotional and social interventions, as they can experience bullying and become frustrated with their situation (Daley & McCarthy, 2020). This paper will describe my experience of providing two different interventions for a student with disabilities.

The first step in my study was assessment, which revealed key adverse factors. I have recognized that the student I have selected had issues adapting to a school setting, which led to conflicts with peers and disappointment in the family. The initial intervention was focused on relationships between the student and his family. After the interview, I spent several hours in family counseling to ensure home-based support on a sufficient level. The role of a teacher is to perceive that a student with disabilities exhibits anxiety and contact their family for questioning and assistance, while their family has a duty to show understanding. In this case, the student needed to become a learner by comprehending that a school supports them in every aspect of education. The second intervention was directed at peer relations, and the student had to play as a teacher to explain what difficulties he had. This activity took the form of a lesson, for which I helped the student with preparing materials for a presentation. Conflict resolution occurred after peers’ understanding of the situation. The results were analyzed based on a small survey on the topic. In a post-intervention interview, the student expressed relief regarding the relationship corrections.

In conclusion, the student and his family had a positive experience that helped them with adapting to a learning environment. Assessing a student’s needs is essential, as each case has specific conditions and requirements. My understanding of the possible interventions has significantly increased, and I will apply this knowledge in my future career. I will utilize family counseling for cases where the expectations from one’s family cause self-doubts and anxiety. Moreover, peer conflicts have been shown to be stemming from the lack of knowledge of the issues that the student has in his life and were resolved through explanations of his condition. I realized the value of remedial interventions and will focus on the social aspect of learning in the future.
