Article Introduction

Innovation is often viewed as a concept and a phenomenon of abstract nature. However, for the leaders and the manager of any organization, it is possible and necessary to measure innovation to determine whether or not their investments pay off.

The article by Rana, Nanda, and Sontakki (2010) focuses on the ways of measuring performance index and quality management innovation in an organization. The key constructs employed in the study involve innovation quality magnitude, innovation quality management, and innovation performance index. The objective of the study is to determine the relationship between the innovation performance and innovation quality.

Research Project

The working title of the research project is “Impact of implementation of quality management systems on innovations initiatives at Dubai Customs”. This research will focus on the most effective strategies to enhance the innovation practices of the organization. The research will narrow down to my workplace. The collection of data, analysis, and interpretations will, therefore, be done in consideration of this government organization.

Relation of Article

The article by Rana, Nanda, and Sontakki (2010), just like my research has an objective to evaluate the existing innovation strategies and quality management in a particular organization.

Metrics

Assessing the innovation in the organization, the researchers have established nine primary dimensions that reflect the aspects under evaluation and their functions and effects (Rana, Nanda, & Sontakki 2010). These dimensions included leadership, organizational infrastructure, HR management, strategic quality management, governance and knowledge management systems, innovation inputs, organization culture, and process management, (Rana, Nanda, & Sontakki 2010). The abovementioned characteristics were viewed as reflections of innovation quality. Besides, the outcomes of innovation were measured using two additional dimensions – innovation output and social relevance.

Since my research is based on a survey, the proposed dimensions may be adopted to help organize the information obtained from the answers. The number of dimensions could be modified and minimized as some of them would not be covered in the answers.

Additional Metrics

The additional method of data collection in my research is observation. This method will comprise the basis for the secondary metrics that will mainly cover the micro-level of analysis focusing on the groups and individual employees, their performance, attitude towards innovation, and the way it affects them.

Levels

As mentioned in the previous section, the additional metrics of the research will focus on the micro-level of analysis of innovation management and performance. At the same time, the primary metrics will evaluate the innovation and its inputs and outputs on the organizational level. As for the article, it covers the same two levels focusing on the performance of the whole organization through the perspective of the social changes and effects innovation produces.
