I agree with the statement that people should sometimes do things they do not enjoy doing. Under normal circumstances, different people have their own likes and dislikes, or in other words, they have their preferences and what they do not prefer.

There are always differences among people because what some people like doing is not what others like. It is surprising that some people find certain things very interesting and enjoyable yet the same things make other people so upset.

Having mentioned that people have different likes and dislikes, it follows that life offers both what people like and what they do not like. It is common knowledge that if human beings are allowed to make choices on the things they wish to do, they will definitely choose the things they enjoy doing.

However, life sometimes does not present people with choices to make thus under certain circumstances, people should do things they do not enjoy doing (Tracy, 2009).

The first reason why people should sometimes do things they do not enjoy doing is that the things they do not enjoy may be the only survival means during such moments. This means that failure to do them will cause a lot of suffering.

For example, in most countries employment opportunities are scarce while the number of qualified people who look for employment is high. As a result, people must spend sometime without jobs once they leave college. In such situations, people may be looking for particular jobs but other jobs they do not like emerge before they get the jobs they dream of.

Due to scarcity of employment opportunities, such people should do the jobs even if they do not enjoy doing them because it is not sensible for them to suffer as a result of unemployment simply because they get jobs they do not enjoy doing.

The second reason why people should sometimes do things they do not enjoy doing is that the things may be of help to other people. As rational and logical human beings, people should not always do things because they directly benefit from them.

They should at times do things even when they do not enjoy doing them because they benefit other people. For example, a person may be put in charge of a project to clean a section of the city which is extremely dirty.

Although not many people will enjoy spending time in a dirty environment to supervise work, this is something that benefits many other people hence it is important for one to sacrifice for the sake of the well being of other people.

Statue or Monument of Choice

In every country, there are usually famous individuals whether alive or dead who are talked about generation after generation. Such people form an important component of the history of the countries because the heroic deeds or unique things they do or they did in their lives.

As a result, countries find it important to honor such people by setting aside days in the calendar to remember them. Other countries decide to build statues or monuments of the heroes and heroines in order to preserve their memories.

If my city decided to build a statue of one of the most famous leaders, the person I will choose is Ibn Sina. Ibn was among the most famous Muslim philosophers who ever lived and made significant contributions to humanity. In his life, he wrote many books some of which still exist.

Most of his books were in the field of philosophy although he made important input in medicine by writing medicine books. Ibn also made significant contribution in mathematics by producing the encyclopedic work.

In his life, Ibn made astronomical observations which were very important because he later made accurate deductions out of the observations. For example, he observed Venus for some time and eventually made a deduction that the distance between the planet and the Earth was shorter than the distance between the sun and the earth.

He was also associated with an instrument that was used to observe star coordinates. Apart from inventing this device, Ibn was recognized for his astronomical contribution when he attempted to establish through calculation, the longitude difference between Gurgan and Baghdad. He also accurately found out the finiteness of light’s velocity .

However, the most notable contributions that Ibn made in his life were in philosophy. He presented strong views on reality and reason by arguing that God was purely intellect. In addition, he said that human beings gained knowledge when their minds grasped the intelligible, a process that he said required logic and reason.

Ibn was also credited for coming up with a knowledge theory where he said that human beings perceived abstracted forms of objects as opposed to the concrete objects.

In my view, Ibn Sina was a famous person who made contribution in so many fields during his life. As a result, it will be important for the city to build his monument in his respect and to preserve his memories forever.

Teenagers Should not Work While in School

Education is the most important asset that parents give to their children. Through education, students become self reliant and live good lives without the need to bother other people.

The major focus of students who pursue education tirelessly is to get good jobs after school and well. However, some lucky teenagers get jobs before they complete their education.

In my opinion, it is not a good idea for teenagers to get jobs before they complete their education. The first reason why it is not advisable for them to get jobs while still in school is that there are high chances of getting spoilt and dropping out of school.

Some teenagers who get money while in school tend to think that since their eventual goal is to get money, there is no need to finish their education. Failure to complete their education and earn good certificates puts them in risky situations.

For example, teenagers who drop out of school to concentrate on their jobs leave school without any academic credentials. In the event that they lose the jobs they got while in school, their lives almost come to an end since they become unable to secure other jobs due to lack of academic credentials.

This situation leads some of them into committing suicide because they realize that life becomes unbearable.

The second reason why teenagers should not get jobs while in school is that they lack enough maturity to know how to manage the money they get. The most important thing for them is only spending the money on luxurious activities which do not benefit them.

Eventually, they become rebellious and deviant to both teachers and parents. They are always in conflict with their parents because they do not obey them.

They usually think that the advice their parents give them is valueless yet their parents have the capacity and enough life experiences to know when their children expose themselves to danger .

The third reason why teenagers should not get jobs while in school is that most of the jobs that they get while in school have low salaries and dangerous working conditions.

Since the teenagers do not have the qualifications to demand high salaries, they usually do a lot of work for low salaries. Some of the jobs they do expose them to many risks because they are done at night. They usually prefer working during the night in order for them to get enough time to attend classes during the day.

Working during the night and attending classes during the day is disadvantageous in that the teenagers do not concentrate in class and this leads to poor performance in school. I therefore strongly disagree that teenagers should get jobs while still in school.

University Students Should be Required to Attend Classes

University education is very important to students since it provides them with practical skills required in the job market. However, some students do not take it with the seriousness it deserves since some of them look for shortcuts to pass their examinations.

This is a harmful approach because the final product is usually a person who lacks the expertise required by employers in the job market.

Some people believe that university students should not attend classes while others feel that it is important for them to attend classes. My point of view is that university students should be required to attend all classes.

The first reason why university students should be required to attend classes is that this prevents them from indulging in bad activities and joining wrong companies. Universities are institutions where students either shape or destroy their lives due to excess freedom (On the Importance of Diversity in Higher Education, 2001).

Attending classes is one way of making them occupied thus preventing them from joining bad companies and engaging in the wrong activities. When they attend classes, this reduces the free time they have and instead of wasting the time in unnecessary activities, they spend it doing important class work.

The second reason why university students should be required to attend classes is that this is an important way of enhancing and building their social skills. Apart from acquiring academic knowledge, students are supposed to develop social skills necessary for life after school.

Human beings are social beings by nature and they should learn how to socialize with other people. Attending classes gives the students opportunities to interact with their fellow students and lecturers hence university education prepares them both socially and academically.

The third reason why university students should be required to attend classes is that class work enables them to gain a lot of knowledge in their areas of specialization. Universities are institutions that produce highly qualified individuals who perform exceptionally in their fields once they are employed.

Students who attend classes are in a better position to interact closely with their tutors and this enables them to get clarifications areas they find difficulties. This is not the case with students who do not attend classes because they study on their own with no body to assist them when they experience difficulties. University students should therefore be required to attend classes.
