Technology has helped transform the world positively. According to Ginés (2010), there has been a consistent technological advancement in various sectors and this has affected the way things are done. The need to make work easier has driven man to become more innovative in coming up with technological advancements that can help transform way of life.
Communication has been made easier, thanks to technological improvement. It is now possible for an individual in Paris France to chat with another individual in New York City in real time. This can be made possible using phones or the social media. This means that people can easily communicate with each other without the need to meet physically.
Transport has also been enhanced with the advancement of technology. There has been a consistent development of modern transport machines in the form of planes, cars, ships and bikes. This has redefined the movement of people on earth. In large companies, most of the physical works are currently done using large machines. The machines are faster, more accurate, lesser fatigued, and can standardize production better than human beings.
This means that in such plants, the work of human being is simply to control the machines. In the firm, it is the machine responsible for most of the physical activities that were previously done by human being. As Bereano (2009) puts it, there is no sector that is currently running without the direct support of the machines. This has created a perception that people have become overly dependent on technology. The research seeks to investigate this perception in order to determine its truthfulness.
It is true that the world has become under intense pressure to embrace speed, perfection and efficiency in operations. The need for speed has been necessitated by the pressure firms are under when it comes to producing new products in the market. There are various firms in the market that are always waiting to mimic innovative products of other firms.
This has forced innovative firms to have high speeds when it comes to delivering their products in the market in order to get maximum benefit by the time other firms will introduce their products in the market. Speed is also important because of the importance of time as another factor of production.
When a product is delivered in the market within a short time, it is possible to price it at a lesser cost. In social life, speed is important, especially movement from one place to another, in meal preparation, in preparing personal documents among other factors. Perfection is another factor that is most sought for in the current world. There is consistent pressure from various forces in business environment to ensure that products that are delivered in the market are of the right standards.
Customers are always willing to pay more for products that are considered perfect in the market. In social life, it is important to try and gain perfection in various issues. In sports, there has been intense pressure to embrace technology in officiating most of the games, especially in football.
This is because it has come to the knowledge of many that human being is prone to errors, and the only way these errors can be eliminated is to engage technology in order to ensure that the game is perfectly fair. Efficiency means the ability to operate effectively using the least possible cost and within the shortest time possible. In the current society, firms are under pressure to ensure that their production process is very efficient for them to set competitive prices in the market (Bauwa, 2008).
Efficiency is production, transport and in product delivery in the market has become the core of business units. In social life, efficiency has become very important. Efficiency is the kitchen, entertainment instruments, and in movement is considered a priority in the current society. The answer to all these issues is technology. It is technology that can solve all the issues identified above.
It is apparent that human being has become overly dependent on technology. The need to ensure that speed, perfection and efficiency are maintained has driven people to depend on technology for various activities. The emerging technologies have proven capable of addressing various issues related to production processes in the firm.
It is becoming apparent that in order for firms to maintain an edge over other firms in the market, they have to maintain technology as the core of their business strategy. The emerging technologies have proven to be able to give a firm an edge, especially when it is geared towards delivering new products in the market, or a new product delivery method. People have come to believe in technology so much that to them, it is not possible to be efficient to operate without it.
The current clamor to introduce technology in officiating football is a clear indication that people do not trust anything done without direct support of technology. This has seen technology introduced in athletics, especially the short races like the 100 meter race in determining the winners. From classrooms, to sports, in companies, on roads and in air, it is technology playing a core role, and people have shown their trust on it.
It is an undoubted fact that people depend on technology in their entire social, economic and political lives. However, saying that people have overly become dependent on technology may be subject to some criticism. Human beings are the makers of technology. They develop technology to help in advancing their activities.
According to Borgmann (2007), technology is dependent on people. People will always take technology to levels which they believe is appropriate to them. This scholar says that technology is used by people as a tool. They use it to make work easier. This does not mean that they overly depend on technology. This is because technology is a creation of man.
For instance, instead of walking for forty miles on foot spending the whole day, man has invented car to help shorten the journey and make it less strenuous. It is good to advance in various activities when there is opportunity to do so. When there is a machine that can undertake a duty that would have been performed by twenty people, then it would be worth embracing that technology and using the workforce in other areas of production.
Although these technologies have been embraced by various companies all over the world, it is a fact that technology has no capacity to replace human labor. The machines have to be operated by human beings, and strategies have to be thought through by people. Technology is therefore for the purpose of improving speed, perfection and efficiency.
