• As we move toward the end of the course, you should now understand that leadership and management is about self-improvement, i.e., to be an effective leader or manager one must
have/possess/exhibit the “Essential Values and skills.
Healthcare is conducted in teams.
• You do not select the members of the health care team. Only Human Resources (HR) can hire and fire. You-as a valued employee–will work effectively with other members of the team.
• Emotional intelligence (IE) is essential.
• You must “fit in” to the work place environment; you will do so by adhering to the vision, mission, goals and objectives.
• Signing the institution’s “Code of Conduct” and the “Ethics Statement,” is a normal part Of the work place.
Team Assignment:
1) Select a hospital Vision statement and a Mission statement of a hospital or other health facility in the United States. (In order to avoid duplication of efforts by teams in this class, do not use a hospital in the Texas Medical Center.)
Go on line, there are hundred’s of hospital across the nation.
2) As a team discuss the idea of a “team code of conduct” for the hospital—based on the mission and vision —that you have selected. As a team, DEVELOP/WRITE A “TEAM CODE OF CONDUCT.”
3. As a team, briefly discuss and evaluate in two short paragraphs, (a)why the “team code of conduct” that you have developed is applicable and (b) whether you think the “team code of conduct” that you and your team have developed will make your team more effective.
