Weaver, M. S., Wichman, B., Bace, S., Schroeder, D., Vail, C., Wichman, C., & Macfadyen, A. (2018). Measuring the impact of the home health nursing shortage on family caregivers of children receiving palliative care. Journal of Hospice and Palliative Nursing, 20(3), 260.
The main point of the research is that the shortage of home nurses is one of the crucial points in the modern medical field. The article argues that although there is a growing demand for home nurses, this part of medicine has decreased over the years. People refuse to enter such a position because this type of activity is stressful, and not everyone can withstand such complex workloads (Weaver et al., 2018). The other argument states that the need for nurses at home is increasing, and people do not receive appropriate care and treatment, which affects the family and its expenses for the maintenance of a sick person (Weaver et al., 2018). The article’s primary purpose is to show that the profession of nursing is becoming unpopular, which poses a healthcare threat to society and shows a negative tendency. Even though the main topic of the work is the study of the shortage of medical workers, the author, on the contrary, pays more attention to the families who need them. Thus, the authors make their arguments and conclusions somewhat from a biased perspective.
The research can be well-thought-out and organized and provides helpful and essential information. The type of research is a survey, which provides materials that confirm all the authors’ arguments and make the research qualitative. In addition, it is worth noting that all views are supported by available facts, which helps to understand the presented information more effectively. The data is presented clearly and allows fully considering the medical field’s problems. However, the negative side of this work is that the author announced only one reason why there is a shortage of textiles and does not essentially offer any solution to such a problem.
The article by Weaver et al. is helpful and partly reveals my topic, but the presentation of the material itself is not entirely correct. Firstly, it is relevant to the topic of interest as it examines how the lack of nurses affects healthcare facilities and patients and their families. It has already been mentioned above that the information is somewhat biased and mainly considers only one side – the side of families, and attention is partially missed concerning nursing. However, this work will be used to research the topic under investigation because it will give a new and different perspective on the shortage of health workers.
This study is essential for several reasons that reveal the structure of the health care field. The first reason is that the article permits seeing not the general problem of the shortage of nurses but focuses on a specific part of medicine. Such specificity allows qualitative analysis of the causes of the need for workers. The second reason: the article will enable us to understand how such a problem affects ordinary people, in this context, families. The third reason for the importance of such a study: it is possible to understand the motives of interest in the work of home nurses. Therefore, the study can be used to support the topic of future research. This is because it helped form a new perspective on the problem and added to the understanding of the question under investigation.
Bahadori, A., Peyrovi, H., Ashghali-Farahani, M., Hajibabaee, F., & Haghani, H. (2018). The relationship between nursing leadership and patient satisfaction. International Journal of Medical Research & Health Sciences, 5(10), 134-141.
Leadership is an integral part of the functioning of any organization. Hence, in the field of healthcare, this aspect occupies one of the leading positions, as it provides motivation and successful work for the staff. Regarding nursing leadership, it provides an opportunity for effective and thoughtful management of this group of employees, which contributes to improving the quality of services provided and patient satisfaction. To support this information, the article by Bahadori et al. was investigated. under the title “The relationship between nursing leadership and patient satisfaction.” The authors note that “a leader within a healthcare organization who represents the interests of the nursing profession, and refining skills to differentiate them from the competition or to advance to the next level of leadership” (Bahadori et al., 2018, 135). Thus, specialists who decide to lead a team must have certain qualities. They should be purposeful, emotionally prepared for difficulties, and should be able to make timely and productive decisions. These qualities can have a positive impact on the work of the health organization and the improvement of the environment in the workplace.
Moreover, the central theme of the studied article is the analysis of the interaction of nurse leadership and the level of patient satisfaction. The study of this topic is necessary since providing the best experience to the sick is the main task of a medical institution. Therefore, to prove the existence of a connection between the proposed aspects, the authors conducted scientific work based on data collected using the multifactor leadership questionnaire and patient satisfaction instrument. Thus, three main leadership styles used by nurses were identified: transactional leadership style (50%), transformational leadership style (29.4%), and passive-avoidant leadership style (20.6%) (Bahadori et al., 2018). In addition, it was pointed out that when using the first style of medical personnel management, patient satisfaction is much higher than with the rest.
The strength of this article stands in the fact that it emphasizes that to determine the further contribution of various types of nurse leadership, it is necessary to analyze the opinion of patients. Feedback from patients can provide the most valuable and in-depth insight into how nurses should manage staff and provide medical care. This source may have a positive contribution to further research and my topic of interest, as it provides evidence-based and relevant data, which can contribute to the formation of the work.
Bairey Merz, C. N., Andersen, H., Sprague, E., Burns, A., Keida, M., Walsh, M. N., Greenberger, P., Campbell, S., Pollin, I., McCullough, C., Brown, N., Jenkins, M., Redberg, R., Johnson, P., & Robinson, B. (2017). Knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs regarding cardiovascular disease in women: the Women’s Heart Alliance. Journal of the American College of Cardiology, 70(2), 123-132.
The last article, which has been analyzed as part of this work, is “Knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs regarding cardiovascular disease in women: the Women’s Heart Alliance,” written by Bairey Merz et al. It is relevant because it provides information about various assumptions regarding the spread of cardiovascular diseases among women. Thus, it is emphasized that “cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number 1 killer of women in the United States, yet few younger women are aware of this fact” (Merz et al., 2017, p. 123). These statistics make it necessary to study women’s health and how it is affected and connected with the spread of the medical issue.
Therefore, the Women’s Heart Alliance conducted a specialized scientific survey. In the paper, the authors “examined barriers and opportunities for women and physicians with regard to cardiovascular disease” (Merz et al., 2017, p. 124). Moreover, a valuable aspect of this article is that it emphasizes the limited knowledge on the topic of cardiovascular manifestations, especially in the female population. This can significantly reduce the effectiveness of the process of finding ways to reduce the occurrence of cardiovascular abnormalities. The results of the research work showed that women have little interest in what risk heart-related diseases may have. Thus, they care more about problems with excess weight, which develops into a stigma that prevents them from paying attention to more serious issues. The remaining deviations are less obvious, but this necessitates a more detailed study of such a topic. In the end, the author emphasizes the importance of conducting further research, which will help to identify more patterns and ways to manage emerging cardiovascular diseases in women, which makes it useful and relevant for my further research.
