Michael Jackson (MJ) was born in Indiana in the year 1958 to a family that had a deep passion for music. He had deep roots for the growth of his music career since his father had the dreams of becoming a musician.
His father did not have the opportunity to nurture his skills and pursue his interest in music, and thus he instilled in his children the belief that music was their only hope of succeeding.
Working as a crane operator in the steel industry, his father let nothing come in his way as he relentlessly promoted his children to achieve what he hoped for in vain.
Having gotten unfailing support from his father and introductory music lessons from his mother, Michael Jackson had a strong foundation in music that made him a successful musician with admirable choreography skills.
Michael Jackson grew with the Jackson Five and pursued a solo career from the year 1972. He had started singing at the tender age of five years and became a star at the age of 11 years while working with his family band. At this tender age, his choreography was evident.
He came up with interesting and unpopular moves that got everybody watching his videos. He particularly made his family band, the Jackson Five, famous by his impeccable moves which would later on make him the undisputable king of pop.
He, therefore, outgrew his elder brothers to become the band’s favorite among its fans. With the pioneer dance moves stated above, a smooth crooning voice and an enviable afro hairstyle, Michael Jackson was destined for success at his tender age after his family band produced four hits that topped charts consecutively.
He had already mastered and perfected pop dances that made him look like a dancing machine to his fans. His moves were fast, powerful and perfect to the extent that any other person attempting to copy them would fail dismally.
After going solo in 1992, he worked on his first solo album, Got to Be There and released another album in 1979 that was titled Off the Wall. His moves invoked lots of feelings in his fans.
His performance gave an impression of an artist who strongly feels the message he is passing in the song. Even though the songs in his Got to Be There and Off the Wall albums were hits, much of his fame and popularity is associated with his 1982 Thriller album.
This album had a total of seven songs that were voted as top-ten worldwide. Some of these songs are the famous Billie Jean and Beat It hits that got everybody emulating the Michael Jackson’s dance moves branded the moonwalker.
He also incorporated movie-like aspects in his music videos which made his videos spectacular. This was, for example, evidenced in his Thriller song which employed a cultic theme in its production.
After the release of this album, Michael Jackson became the indisputable King of Pop and redefined pop music with his signatures.
Michael Jackson featured in the MTV while he was still a little child. His soulful voice and unmatched dance moves made him an international star long before he produced the famous Thriller album.
As he redefined Pop, he also introduced signatures for lovers of Pop even with his dressing. His favorite code was pseudo-military attire with a white glove that has almost become synonymous with his name.
He also groomed in glittery suits that magnified his unequaled expertise in dancing.
Among his greatest signatures for Pop music is the aforementioned moonwalker dance that made his music the favorite genre for many. The energy in his videos has also made his work very popular among many lovers of pop music.
His next album, Bad, was the best in 1987. The album derived its title from a song in the album that is one of the best Pop songs ever. The title track for the Bad album had creative choreography that has, since, been copied by artists worldwide.
He had a group of dancers who made synchronous moves in the video for this song. The moves were benchmarked by his style of dancing; the stated energetic pop moves.
Michael Jackson has been, undoubtedly, an inspiration to many contemporary artists. Artists like Chris Brown, Usher, Neyo and others have done so much to make Michael Jackson’s work a legacy. Virtually all the artists above state Michael Jackson as their role model.
The influence that MJ has had on the music industry is also evidenced in the latest dance moves. For instance, the common features in the dance moves associated with Chris Brown, Usher, and Neyo all have roots from the moonwalk choreography.
The dressing styles of the latter two are also part of MJ’s style in which he dressed in a suit and a hat that formed part o his dance moves. Although he is gone, it is indubitable that his music and choreography have been immortalized through other artists.
In a nutshell, Michel Jackson was an artist and celebrity like no other. He attracted praise for his achievements in the music industry and criticism for his lifestyle in, arguably, equal measure.
He revolutionized the Pop music industry by introducing several appropriate signatures that are the epitome of choreography. In spite of the molestation allegations and his numerous cosmetic surgeries, Michael Jackson is a legend who will always form part of the history of music.
