This classic Disney movie is like most with a villain and a hero. I’m sure all of you have seen this movie as a child, but when you were 3 compared to now, I’m sure you would all have a greater understanding of the hero in a story and the villain.

But just in case you didn’t catch on, a hero is someone who puts themselves at risk for others and the greater good. Heroes are brave. Heroes often have something to defeat and are driven by a determination to defeat that villain. Heroes have to be courageous as they face difficult situations and are role models to the people around them. Heroes always show selflessness by putting others before themselves and showing caring. All these traits make a hero inspirational.

The first scene I picked to analyze was the scene where Simba meets the hyenas in the elephant graveyard. In this scene, Simba is very brave and tries to defend Narla and himself even though he is only a cub himself. In this scene, he shows traits of bravery courageous and selflessness. But in no way is Simba a hero yet and defied Mufasa and goes to the graveyard putting himself and Narla in GRAVE danger “That was a pun by the way”.

But keep in mind that it is not all about the things the characters say but also the way editors portray them, from facial expressions to their stance in the scenes. In the elephant graveyard scene, the lighting and music set a great atmosphere for Simba and Narla to walk into. By the expressions on their faces, you can tell they are both frightened but also excited, as they are breaking the rules and exploring a new place. They are quickly greeted by the Hyenas. The hyenas are menacing characters and to compare them to superheroes and villains they are sidekicks to the main villain scare. The music accompanied by their entrance emphasizes their menacing demeanor which then makes Simba’s brave behavior all the more heroic. Simba stances himself in front of Nala and we all know that’s a sure sign he is protecting her. But the Hyenas are not deterred by Simba’s heroic act and proceed to stalk Simba and Narla. Right before the man character is about to be eaten in front of our eyes, Mufasa saves the day and rescues both of them, later giving Simba a pep talk about life.

The 2nd scene I have chosen is when Narla finds Simba in the oasis with Timon Pumbaa and tells him that the pride lands are now a wasteland as Scar is ruling. She tells him that he needs to return home and take his place as king to restore order to the pride lands. Simba’s reaction shows that he has mixed feelings about this and that he feels guilty about his father’s death and thinks that he is not worthy to be king. This makes you as an audience member feel excited to find out about Simba’s decision to go back to Pride Rock as well as feeling anxious about what would be waiting for him back in the Pride Lands.

The third scene I chose was when Simba fought against the hyenas and scar to regain his role for pride rock. Simba confronts Scar and shows true heroism when he has the opportunity to kill Scare but doesn’t. but the scar still gets gang banged by the hyenas though. This scene shows the anger and need for vengeance on Simba’s face. After Simba defeats Scar and scares the hyenas off and away from the pride lands, he takes his rightful role as king and has a child with Narla. This ending scene shows the joy and happiness on Simba’s face.

The Lion King proves to be a very moving cultural movie with many entertaining elements that make it inspire younger children. The movie teaches lessons and tells stories to relate well through the character’s journey giving an engaging effect. This movie opens up the creative minds of Disney producers and the history of Africa and its people. Overall The Lion King teaches people of all ages with special moments and quotes. It also translates some names and songs, seeing some facts about African culture.
