Every day, innocent infants lose their lives from the choice of an abortion. Abortions have been a big debatable topic since Roe v. Wade case on January 22, 1973. There has been a lot of disagreement between pro-life supporters and pro-choice supporters. People use abortion as an option because of the fear that people might judge them by their mistakes. There are many different forms of abortion, the cruelest form of abortion is late-term abortion which takes place during the second trimester. Allowing late-term abortion is taking the right of life from healthy babies. In order to save unborn healthy babies’ lives, late-term abortion needs to be illegal and to prevent the mother’s mental and physical health risks. The mother can find new loving and caring parents for unwanted babies to avoid abortion.

In 1973, with Roe v. Wade decision, the U.S. Supreme Court declares that Consitution protects women’s rights to terminate a pregnancy, therefore making an abortion legal in the United States. Abortion before Roe v. Wade was illegal for poorer ones because to abort the child was expensive. “Prohibition of legal abortion particularly hurt people with low incomes; a survey conducted in the 1960s found that among women with low incomes in New York City who had obtained an abortion, eight in 10 had attempted a dangerous, self-induced procedure” (plannedparenthood). People who couldn’t afford to abort the child, they use a dangerous and unsafe way to abort the child. There were two labels primarily come into the conflict on the issue of abortion, which are pro-choice and pro-life. Pro-choice supporters believe that everyone has the right to decide when and whether to have a child. While pro-life supporters are people who oppose abortion. Late-term abortion is aborting the child at twenty or more weeks of pregnancy.

People believe abortion is an easy way out of a misery life of pregnancy, but they should know that it is murder. In order to save babies’ lives, late-term abortion should be illegal unless it is a medical emergency. Monica Burke, a research assistant at the Heritage Foundation’s DeVos Center for Religion and Civil Society said, “Unborn children aborted after 20 weeks feel, and feel intensely, the pain of late-term abortion in its myriad forms”(Burke). According to Burke, unborn infants can experience pain by the twenty weeks of pregnancy. By the twentieth weeks of gestation, the baby is already formed and they can feel the pain. Aborting alive baby is just like murdering a live human being. “The ban would not make exceptions for victims of rape or incest, and though women would not face jail time, doctors who perform the procedure outside of strict legal parameters could face up to 99 years in prison. It’s now up to Republican Gov. Kay Ivey to sign it into law”(O’Grady). The doctors who perform abortion illegal could be sent to jail with death-sentenced.

Many people around the world make the mistake of getting a late-term abortion. They don’t know how much it affects not only the fetus but also the mother. The health of the mother is highly at risk when getting a late-term abortion. When the mother wants to get pregnant in the future, it may be harder because surgical abortion can cause scarring of the uterine wall. Another health risk for the mother is her mental health. The process of the second trimester and the third trimester of abortion leaves a traumatizing effect on the mother. There are three different procedures to perform a late-term abortion that include pain and inhumane methods. The most popular method is dilation and evacuation procedures. This includes dilating the cervix and removing the fetus in pieces using forceps. Another procedure is the early induction of labor. This can be very intense and painful for a pregnant woman. The third procedure is intact dilation and extraction surgery. “The farther along you are, the more prep work you may have to undergo to prepare your body for the procedure” (Women’s Health). It is a long process to abort for the twentieth weeks of gestation. Through this process, if something went wrong it can lead an extreme health risk to the mother.

A woman carrying an unwanted child can find loving and caring parents for her baby to avoid abortion. Instead of going through the inhumane procedure, let the child be born and find the loving parents for the baby. There are so many options for an unwanted child. First, the mother could ask help from a supportive or the most trustworthy family member or friends. This is not the first trimester, it is the second or third trimester so there will be people who are willing to support till the end. Next, there are so many people who really want a baby but they can’t have one and they are seeking to adopt a child. Adoption is the best opportunity and option for a woman who is carrying an unwanted child because the child is saved and some people gain a child from that. This isn’t the end of the world for a mother who’s carrying an unwanted child. Next, the mother could place her child into foster care. They could treat the baby better and give the love they deserve. Everybody in this world deserves kindness and love.

I believe women’s rights and the right to do whatever they want to do is important and was a dream for women and aborting their own child is acceptable and understandable for a woman who got raped, not ready to have a child, hidden from parents, or unstable financial. But aborting at second and third trimester is totally unacceptable and the cruelest way. It is the time that is near the due date for a baby to be born and it is alive and breathing healthily. No one knows what will happen after abortion, it can get worse and experience pain for the long-term. If a woman doesn’t want the baby, she can let someone adopt the baby. The cost of an abortion is expensive as well for people who could not afford it. When I hear the word abortion, all I could think is how could they do that to their own blood child. The child doesn’t choose to be in the mother’s womb, that’s why the mother should think of the child as a gift. The child could bring happiness, wash away your worries and help you when they get older. “ I believe that children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way. Show them all the beauty they possess inside” (Whitney Hudson, “Greatest Love Of All”). The children are the future for us, they are the ones who will lead in the future.

In conclusion, late-term abortion cruelest and inhumane way to end an innocent infant’s lives. Instead of saving babies’ lives, people are killing babies by aborting. Late-term abortion should be illegal to save babies and women’s health by finding new caring parents and providing a safe place or options for them. Let the child receive the love they deserve.
