Jackie Robinson was one of the 7 men I picked. He was the most interesting because he was the first African American to break the color barrier and play in the Major League MVP Baseball. He was named Rookie of the Year Jackie is married to Rachel Isum, who is a nursing student, both met at UCLA in 1946. They have three children who provided Jackie with emotional love and the sense of purpose he needed during his baseball career. Jackie Robinson was born on the 31st of January in the year 1919. Jackie Robinson was born in Cairo, Georgia. He was the youngest of five children and was raised in poverty by his single mother Jackie Robinson went to John Muir High School and Pasadena Junior College where he found out that he was an excellent athlete and had an affinity for sports including football, basketball, track, and baseball. It was during this that he was named the most valuable player in baseball

In the years 1942 to 1944, Jackie served as a second lieutenant, but he never had any combat. It was during boot camp when he got arrested for refusing to give up his seat and move to the back of the segregated bus but with Jackie’s excellent reputation and the help of his friends and various papers to shed light on injustice. Sadly, he received the charges and gained an honorable discharge, this would later have an impact on his major-league baseball

As said before, Jackie and Rachel both met at UCLA, they got married on the 10th of February in 1946. As Jackie progressed in his baseball career, they as a couple received many threats involving insults to death threats, it was because of this that they both became civil rights members Jackie and Rachel both had children, their three children were called Jack, Sharon, and David. Rachel went to great lengths to nurture her children away from the racism. Sadly, in 1971, their oldest child, Jack Robinson died in a car accident at the age of 24

Jackie has the values of courage, determination, teamwork, persistence, integrity, justice, commitment, and excellence. Jackie’s beliefs were “A life is not important except the impact it has on other lives. One of their contributions was becoming the first African American to play in the major baseball. He made one of the old teams “the dodgers” finally in the world series. He contributed by helping other African Americans fight for their basic rights and he used his name and status to work toward equality for all Americans

I picked him because he was the most interesting one and he went through a lot of hardship including financial, discrimination, and so on, however, Jackie never quit and continued to strive and work for the better future he had hoped for. Jackie had the determination to keep doing what he loved and that’s why I picked Jackie Robinson
