Instructions: You will answer a series of questions that should guide your readi

Instructions: You will answer a series of questions that should guide your reading of the paper. You do not need to address every single question shown here (or in this order), but you should include a majority of these ideas in your analysis.
Format: The written article assessment should be no more than 2 pages, single-spaced, using 12-point (Times New Roman or Garamond) font.
Required elements:
Citation: An APA or MLA style citation should be at the top of the written assessment (visit https://pitt.libguides.com/c.php?g=12108&p=64730Links to an external site. for guidelines). The elements to be included are: Authors, Date, Article Title, Journal Title, Volume, Issue (if applicable), and page numbers.
Context and Hypotheses:
Describe the underlying concepts that are related to the research study, identify the hypotheses, and describe the type of data being collected to test the hypotheses. Answer the questions to the best of your ability in prose or beefy bullet points.
Does the title of the article give any indication of the type of study being reported (i.e., is this a descriptive study, an experimental study or a review study?
Were the variables (dependent and independent) mentioned in the title? Do you have any indication of the type(s) of data being collected at this point?
What is the “big picture” subject that is being addressed in this study? Include the following elements:
What is the purpose/aim of the study?
What is the broad subject area that is being addressed? Put this subject into historical context (you may have to look outside this paper for more information – textbooks in the discipline may be a good source).
What specific theory or principle is being addressed?
Are there underlying assumptions of the experiments being conducted? Are these assumptions valid?
Was the introduction lacking elements that would have helped you to better understand the article?
What hypothesis(es) is being addressed in this study? Is the hypothesis(es) clear and understandable?
Did the introduction adequately set up the hypotheses?
If there is no explicit hypothesis, try to come up with the hypothesis that the authors implied.

Study Design and Methods: For this section of the analysis, you should focus on the design of the experiment(s) presented in the study. You should also include an analysis of whether the study design is consistent with the hypotheses, the statistics used (if any) are appropriate for the questions being asked, and the sample sizes used are adequate for the study. Here are some questions to focus this portion of the analysis:
Were the methods and study system appropriate for addressing the question(s)?
Briefly describe the study design
Is enough detail given to repeat the study?
Is the interpretation of the findings clear?
If no details about the methods were provided, how can you find the methods used?

Results and Conclusions: In this section, you should focus on the results that were presented in the paper. You should also include an analysis of whether the author’s interpretation of the results is appropriate and whether or not the hypothesis was supported. Conclude this section of the paper with an evaluation of the contribution(s) that this study makes to the discipline. Here are some ideas of what should be included in this section:
Were figures used? If so, are they helpful in understanding the results of the study?
Is the hypothesis supported? Why or why not?
Is the author’s interpretation of the results consistent with your own interpretations? Please explain.
Does the investigator relate the results to the hypotheses?
Are the conclusions that the author makes supported by the data? If not, please explain.
Do the results from this study contribute to theory or the conceptual framework of the “big picture” (see Context and Hypotheses)?
What contribution does this paper make to the discipline?
Is future work suggested? If so, what?
Did you enjoy the paper? Why or why not?
Double check your work:
Did you include answers to the following questions?
Did you identify the hypothesis that is being tested? How does this relate to the field of study?
Did you give an overview of the experimental design?
What are the results of the study?
Was the hypothesis supported by the conclusions of the study?
Do you agree with the author’s interpretation of the results? Why or why not?
