In your first written assignment, you identified a most notable crisis of these times. For this assignment, you are an editorial assistant to Kathleen Fearn-Banks. She has asked you to widen your search to identify what you would consider to be an ideal crisis scenario for including in a future edition of her Crisis Communication book. Therefore, for this assignment you must identify a crisis that is NOT the one you wrote about in your first assignment and is NOT in Fearn-Banks’ book (nor in the St. John & Pearson crisis book). Also: DO NOT PICK A COVID-RELATED CASE.
To help you address this assignment, you may consider a) case studies that go back no more than five years ago, and b) case studies that either have been fully resolved, partially resolved, or not resolved at all.
For this assignment, structure your paper as a memo to Kathleen Fearn-Banks. In the memo, you need to do the following in no less than 3 pages and no more than 4 pages (double-spaced, 12 point font, with one-inch margins):
Introduce to Fearn-Banks that you have identified a potentially new case study for her book.
Identify who is the organization (or high-profile individual) and what they are known for.
Provide key details about the crisis. Make sure to point out if this crisis is either fully resolved, partially resolved, or not resolved at all.
Sell Fearn-Banks on why this case study is particularly valuable for her case study book. For example, is it a particularly unique case study? Is it a case study that has a lot of drama? Is it case study that shows excellent management of a crisis? Or, conversely, does it reveal poor management of a crisis? These are just examples. Whatever reasoning you use, make sure to provide some evidence to support your reasoning.
Finally, any good case study will have an excellent opening paragraph that captures the reader. End your memo with a suggested opening paragraph for this case study you are recommending (your paragraph should be about 3-4 sentences long).
NOTE: As this assignment calls for a memo format, you are not required to provide a reference page. Instead, use footnotes to provide references for all evidence (e.g., data, facts, quotes).
