In this assignment, you will engage with the crazy eights technique described in the textbook reading

Overview In this assignment, you will engage with the crazy eights technique described in the textbook reading. This is a popular sketching technique in the graphic design industry, where designers attempt to rapidly ideate around a given concept. Note that this technique could also be useful for your second milestone in the upcoming module, where you will develop high-fidelity mock-ups for your project. Scenarios You are a designer working on the ideation step of the user-design process for one of the following mobile app design scenarios: Weather App: Design the user interface for a weather forecasting app to make it informative and time-sensitive. Home Security App: Design a mobile app interface for a home security system that allows users to monitor and control their home’s security remotely. Eco-Friendly Transportation App: Design an app that promotes eco-friendly transportation options, such as biking, walking, and public transit. Directions This assignment has two parts: the crazy eights exercise and a reflection. Select one of the scenarios above to complete the assignment. For the crazy eights exercise, you will complete a provided template (see the directions below for more detail). For the second part of the assignment, you will compose a reflection in a separate Word document. Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria: Part 1: Crazy Eights Exercise: This exercise requires you to engage in divergent ideation (how many ways can you visualize a solution?). This style of crazy eights focuses on representing the idea in as many ways as possible. Complete the crazy eights exercise by drawing a distinct idea in each of the eight sections of the provided template within the allotted time. In other words, each idea should be meaningfully different from the rest. As a reminder, here are the process steps of this exercise (adapted from the textbook): Either print out the provided template or get a piece of paper and fold it into eight sections. (Alternatively, you can complete this assignment digitally by importing the template to Illustrator and creating your drawings in that software.) Starting with the first section, draw one image of your solution or one idea you want to explore. Try to take around one minute to do so. (This is more of a guideline than a rule. If you take more than one minute, that is okay—it is most important that you complete each of the squares.) Move on to the second section, spending a minute visualizing your idea. Keep moving from section to section as time allows, striving to spend approximately one minute per section. Part 2: Reflection: Once you have completed the crazy eights exercise, compose a reflection in a separate Word document addressing each of the following: Value: Evaluate crazy eights as an ideation technique. Consider the following in your response: What did you get out of this exercise? Provide examples to illustrate. Were you surprised by any of the ideas you came up with? Include specific details to support your claims. If this design project were to continue, is there a specific direction that you would like to build upon? Explain why. Collaboration: Explain the potential benefits of doing this type of exercise with a group. Provide specific details to support your claims, and cite at least one source. Other Techniques: Assess the other ideation techniques discussed in the module resources regarding whether they could have been useful for this design project. Defend your claims with specific details and cite at least one source. What to Submit Crazy Eights Exercise Using the Module Three Activity Template complete the crazy eights exercise and submit it for grading. Submit the Adobe Illustrator file. Reflection Submit your reflection as a 1- to 2-page Microsoft Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. Sources should be cited according to MLA style.
