Introduction
Human resource management involves management of people and physical resources. The current corporate organizations require high level of management rules which are abreast with the daily technological changes. The key department in every organization is the human resource department. The department requires an individual who is influential and is highly intellectual.
A large percentage of the successes in many organizations should be attributed to the human resource department (Heathfield 2012). This is because the successes involve great input in terms of resources. Therefore, the department requires appropriate allocation of resources and well articulated plans that will lead to appreciable improvement in management.
Functions of the Human Resources Department
The scope of the human resources manager in any organization is to ensure a safe environment that caters for the well being of the employees in the organization. By having the powers to manage both emotional and physical aspects of the organization, a human resources manager should ensure safe and sound coexistence of the two resources. This would involve the welfare of the employees, industrial relations management and management of the personnel.
The personnel welfare is an important aspect of management. It should be reviewed from time to time due to changes that take place in technology. This is because older ways have proved to be the worst ways for managing organizations. In the past, the rule in every organizing was a top to bottom rule (Heathfield 2012). This kind of rule was dictator kind of rule that did not allow for open coexistence.
On the other hand, Current management methods have led to a great stepping stone on management in organizations. Some aspects of management that have been employed by certain organizations include motivation, employee appraisal, inclusion of open and free discussion and conflict management.
The failure to consider these aspects of management has lead to high rate of attrition in some companies. Since the employees are considered as great assets in every organization, it is important that their needs be considered first. They are the drivers of success because they utilize the physical resources to ensure great performance.
Human Resources Management Challenges
One of the challenges in management is employee retention. It is very difficult to select talented employees from a multicultural environment. Another challenge is change in technology. Technological changes in employee’s management should be employed. The only challenge is the speed at which technological advancements take place (Heathfield 2012). This requires alteration of workers or training of workers from time to time to keep abreast with change. For better performance, it is a requirement that such factors of change be considered.
Human Resource Assessments
Action Plan
An action plan is required in every management field during assessments. It is very involving and without it an organization is prune to obtain failure in performance. In management, people are the key assets in the organization. Having employee’s needs as a priority in the action plan would lead to practical performances in the organizational level. During such assessments, the following actions must be analyzed by the human resources manager.
These are leadership commitment, the management of change and the creation of sufficient time and space for change. Involvement in decision making is very important as it leads to open discussions (Heathfield 2012). In addition, the manager should ensure every person participates fully in change related efforts. Lastly, change or success does not come once. By being flexible and patient, the manager should allow space for improvement because the ultimate success results from cumulative and incremental performances.
Conclusion
Managing people is the most difficult thing to do. But, it can be easy when certain aspects of change are practiced. These are focus, patience, flexibility, openness, and understanding. Great change does not come one as Rome was not also built in one day. Being able to understand human beings and appreciating their versatility would create harmony in any place. Therefore, the post of a human resource manager requires a highly intellectual person with great management skills.
