Home run is a unique company focused on offering a range of services relating to the home. They range from doing shopping, helping families relocate, paying bills on behalf of clients, temporarily handling children when their parents are not available and any other related tasks requested by clients. It was formed on the simple understanding that in the modern day, adults are finding less and less time to take care of personal errands and at the same time to spend with their close relatives. By doing shopping on behalf of parents, children can enjoy more time with their parents. Again, taking charge of relocation both at home and at the office frees up time for the client to take care of other matters, which may be urgent, or of even bigger importance. Still picking up a visiting friend or family member from the airport on behalf of the client is a better and more hospitable option than asking them to take a taxi. The market is very receptive to the ideas put across by the business. Of great importance is the fact that the sales team focuses on growing the client base while the rest of the departments ensure that services are offered in the best way possible so as to gain customer loyalty

As can be seen, the services offered by the business involve a great deal of interaction with clients. The most important value in the business is integrity. Anytime a client asks that a specific task be handled in a specific way, the instructions given have to be followed to the letter. Minimum or no deviations at all are entertained. The greatest asset is customer satisfaction. In this regard, the mission statement is developed to capture the delicate but potentially fulfilling tasks handled by the firm. The mission statement is “to offer the best configured personalized domestic services in the US”. Best configuration refers to the fact that the company ensures all the different elements requiring consideration are carefully considered and taken care of before executing the task. The main aim is to offer services as smoothly as possible.

Due to the relative absence of businesses offering the wide range of services as home run, the vision statement not only focuses on growth prospects in terms of the number of services but also the geographic element of expansion. The vision statement thus reads, “To be the leading and most trusted home services provider in the US”. The basic values adopted by the firm are integrity, civility and excellence.

Both the vision and the mission statements are crafted bearing in mind the intention to expand and cover the entire America and the urge to become the leader in offering the services. These are core to the strategic direction to be taken by the firm. However, other guiding principles have been incorporated to take care of the heavy ethical, social and cultural considerations associated with the service provision.

The words “most trusted” in the vision statement is very heavy and intended to pass a very important message about the operations of the firm. A busy professional who may not have the time to go shopping may opt to have his shopping done and put in his car and the keys given to his secretary at the office since he/she may be busy in a meeting. Clearly, such a task comes with enormous responsibility. Even worse, the client may ask that the shopping be taken home and the keys returned to the office. The very central nerve of security and privacy is at stake here. The company has to develop a genuine trust based relationship with the clients. Ethics have to be observed so as not to tamper with the belongings of clients. Workers must be very responsible while handling client’s assets and ensure that they portray the highest possible level of restrain (Logan 2004 Par 3).

The above-mentioned values are meant to support the firms’ vision and mission. Integrity and civility reinforce the trust element in the vision statement while excellence reinforces the urge to become the leader in the industry. As can be seen the values guide the actions of the entire workforce in the firm. In dealing with people’s property, integrity and civility is core. The need to build a good reputation in the business is important hence the need to adhere to the stated values.

The combination of properly drawn mission, vision and values is very fundamental in developing the strategic direction. The mission is supposed to guide the daily execution of tasks by the employees. The mission points out what is happening today towards the realization of the company’s goals. It states the reason for the existence of the organization. By stating that the mission is to offer the best-configured personalized services, the signal being sent to all stakeholders in the firm is that every task executed should be best considered. The motivational effect is very significant. The vision offers the future growth dimensions and quality standard in the firm. It is the future of the organization. It defines what the organization values as the ultimate goals. The vision is drawn in an ideal manner. This means that it should be crafted to challenge everyone in the organization and not to abet laziness. It should not be easy to achieve. The inclusion of the intention to cover the entire America guides the periodic decision-making by the business management towards expansion. This may not be achieved in the few coming years but consistency towards the achievement of the dream is the important message (Logan 2004 Par 4).

It also paints the picture of the future of the employees working in the firm. It passes the message that they should persevere, as the business will grow big and they will be part of the growth. They are made free to contribute towards the set goal. Most importantly, they are motivated to stretch to greater lengths in attempting to achieve a goal that appears bigger than they are. Indeed, analysts have found out that companies whose visions are understood and accepted by employees have significantly higher returns. Again, the customers get a glimpse of the aggressiveness adopted by the business and the seriousness in pursuit of these objectives (Khatib 2009 Par 3).

In truth, the development of effective vision and mission statements based on some well thought goals has over the years separated the companies with the great will and ability to withstand huge shocks by ensuring that focus is directed on achievements rather than on problems being faced. The strategic direction emerging from the interconnection of the values, mission and vision is what guides decision-making processes in the organization.
