Dietary Recommended Intakes (DRI) refers to “a family of quantitative estimates intakes intended for use in assessing and planning diets for healthy people” and mainly constitutes the Recommended Dietary Intakes (RDI) and Tolerable Upper Intake Level (ULs) as reference values (Otten, Hellwig and Meyers 17). In the project under consideration, the results of the nutrition analysis show that the numbers got are not quite appropriate to those which are established by the professionals and by the standards. When a person eats at home, it is easier to develop a nutrition analysis and define the levels of appropriate food intake; eating at restaurants is hard to analyze, this is why attention to different aspects is necessary.
The chosen nutrition is analyzed, and the results are the following: intake is depicted in larger amounts than it is necessary, and the results of such changes are fat deposits; and the amount of carbohydrates absorbed is lower then it is necessary, that causes a low amount of energy that is crucial for a human body; so, much attention should be paid to the chosen diet to make necessary corrections and improve personal health.
Scientific and nutritional knowledge are vital in formulating dietary values. The process of setting up RDI relies on the ability to set up an Estimated Average Requirement (EAR). EAR is regarded as the significant daily intake nutrient value that meets the most important requirements for a healthy person of a particular age and gender group.
After calculating the RDI of the foods taken on Wednesday, Tuesday and Sunday, the results depicted the intake of a larger amount of nutrients than it is actually recommended. It is necessary to admit that sparkpeople.com and fitday.com define different measures of the RDI in spite of the fact that the overall intake was similar.
Fitday.com informs that fat intake is estimated at 31.3 g per day. According to the recommended RDI, the required value of fat is approximately 20-30%. It indicates a fat intake higher than the recommended estimates; and the results of such discoveries may be atherosclerosis due to the higher levels of fats. Fat deposits known as plaques, block the blood vessels and limiting blood passage to the heart which might cause heart failure. Narrowing the blood vessels may also limit the amount of oxygen transported to the brain hence leading to stroke. The recommendation is to reduce fat intake by taking low cholesterol food accompanied by a lot of fruits and vegetables (Otten, Hellwig and Meyers 25).
The carbohydrate intake is 110g per day, and the recommended intake for carbohydrates is 130 kcal per day. It depicts the low energy requirement in the body that eventually causes more protein and fats breakdown and inhibits the body building process by using the proteins and the insulating factors implemented by the fats. Ketosis may arise due to the breakdown of proteins and may cause an increase in the pH of blood resulting (acidosis). This may lead to high blood pressure, and pressure, in its turn, may eventually lead to stroke (Otten, Hellwig and Meyers 103).
It was calculated that protein intake was about 69.7 g per day. It means that the intake of protein was higher that the recommended intake. Within the intake, the excess protein is broken down to form glucose that is then stored in the body in order to promote the development of energy when glucose levels have decreased. High protein in the diet leads to mainly different types of allergies such as skin allergies. So, there should be a slight decrease in the protein intake.
The calculation of the sparkpeople.com show different values. The amount of sodium found in the diet was 177.2mg. It is a very low amount of sodium in comparison to the recommended amount of 2300mg. With a low amount of sodium, the body is likely to experience deficiency that might cause low nerve impulse, contraction, relaxation of the muscle, and the imbalance of body fluid. It leads to tetany or rigor due to the constant contraction of the muscles. To bring the sodium level to balance, intake of table salt should be recommended in foods (Otten, Hellwig and Meyers 390).
Potassium intake was found to be 1213mg as compared to the required 4700mg per day. This indicates a high deficiency in the intake of potassium leading to hormone imbalance and constant contraction of the muscles. Fiber intake was found to be 6.1 as compared to the recommended 38g per day. This implies that, cases of constipation, diverticulitis and hemorrhoids are likely to occur. In case the intake of kales, cabbages, pumpkin and water increases, it should be recommended to enhance peristalsis and enlarge the passage of stool. It will reduce cases of anal pouching (Otten, Hellwig and Meyers 371). Considering the achieved results, it is possible to say that the chosen diet is not quite effective, and considerable changes are required to improve personal health.
