For this discussion, you will assume the role of the faculty leader who has been asked to review select recommendations rendered by the tenure/renewal committee.
One of the recommendations sent for your review was to not renew a contract of a fellow colleague. You are stunned and a bit lost as to why and how the committee recommended the nonrenewal, since the faculty member seemed to be established and well liked within the institution. You must now convene a meeting of your fellow faculty members to review the recommendations and either agree or disagree with the outcome. Keep in mind, you are working inside an organization that considers colleagues to be equal partners. As you begin to prepare your opening remarks for your upcoming meeting, please consider the following:
