This led me to the realization that community health nursing is something that we, as nursing students, should value highly, as it aids in the provision of high-quality health care to less fortunate communities and allows us to better understand the situation of its citizens and the environment, as well as how community health nursing plays an important part in it. To better understand CHN, it’s crucial to understand its focus, which is the community itself. The term ‘community’ does not refer to a specific place; rather, it refers to a social group of individuals who engage with one another beyond geographic borders to achieve similar goals and pursue common interests. The family is the basic unit of care. A family is defined as two or more people who are linked by a common relationship or kinship, and population groups are groups of people that have similar traits, such as teens, the elderly, men, and women. The people, not the location, are the most important aspect of the community.

One of the benefits of community health nursing is that instead of having a clinical visit and only wanting to respond to what they think is best for their health, clients may express what they are genuinely going through and what they are doing to alleviate it. Community health nursing aids in the monitoring of our clients in their normal conditions and environments, allowing us to observe firsthand how they go about their everyday lives and how they care for their health. Observing the type of environment they are in, evaluating the many health hazards that are there, and determining how to deal with making modifications and improvements to the community’s health practices.

Community health is a paramedical and medical intervention or method that focuses on the overall well-being of people. Patients are partners in community health nursing, and the entire population is the scope of care. Community health nursing seeks to achieve primary-level prevention, health promotion, disease prevention, and management of health-related factors.

It’s also important to know the various theories that make up community health nursing, theories that must be followed when working as a community nurse. According to Maglaya et al., community health nursing is concerned with the promotion, prevention, curative, and rehabilitation and involves the application of the nursing process to various levels of clientele, including individuals, families, population groups, and communities. Not only in hospitals but also in the community, we employ the nursing method to care for people.

According to Charles Edward Winslow, public health is the science and art of 3p’s; (1) preventing disease, (2) prolonging life, and (3) promoting health through organized community effort for sanitation, educating people on personal hygiene, and controlling communicable infections. The World Health Organization states that community health nursing aids in reducing inequality in health while ensuring the best health for the greatest number, which in the case of many countries, are the least fortunate families and individuals. Hanlon states that the development of the social machinery to ensure everyone has a standard of living adequate for health is lacking. It is to enable every citizen to realize her birthright of health and longevity. To be able to have access to accessible health care that is available for poor people who cannot afford private medical assistance. For Jacobson, achieving the optimum level of functioning is done through health teaching. ‘Through concerted community effort’ is a common statement in public health. To create a healthy community, each member of the community must have their role or participation. The ultimate goal of community health nursing is to improve people’s health so that they can participate in society. to improve people’s, families, and communities’ ability to manage their health requirements. As a nurse, you must improve the health of individuals in your community by educating them or empowering them to care for themselves. You won’t do it for them because you can’t do it alone. People in the community must be aware of their roles, as well as participate in them, to achieve that goal.

The Department of Health emphasizes that enhancing the accessibility and affordability of quality social services is critical to achieving social justice and satisfying the basic requirements of all Filipinos in the healthcare delivery system. Basic health and nutrition services, such as low-cost, high-quality medicines, maternal care, and micronutrient supplements, are among the critical government interventions aimed at increasing productivity, reducing poverty, and promoting social justice. In this light, stakeholders in the health and health-related sectors must strengthen and coordinate their efforts to achieve the country’s vision of health for all Filipinos and continue its mission of ensuring the accessibility and quality of health care to improve the quality of life of all Filipinos, particularly the underprivileged.

The health sector’s objectives are to the WHO’s framework for health systems. The major goal is to improve the health of the entire population. This entails improving people’s health as much as possible throughout their lives, taking into account the occurrence of disabilities and early deaths. The health system’s performance in satisfying people’s expectations and satisfaction with the services it provides is the second goal. The third goal is equitable health care finance because health and disease come with large and unexpected costs that can put many people in poverty. Health Financing, Health Regulations, Health Service Delivery, and Good Governance in Health are the four primary implementation components of vital reforms. The goal is to guarantee that health investments are increased, improved, and sustained to achieve equity and enhance health outcomes, particularly for the poor. These are the salient points that I believe are critical to have a thorough awareness of what community health nursing entails.
