Cracks in the body of a car engine are not a rare case of breakdown. However, this does not necessarily mean the end of the engine’s life. Cracks can lead to several problems, and for this reason, they must be repaired. There are various ways to repair cracked engine blocks, from traditional welding and soldering to cold welding. This repair will benefit the owner because it is much cheaper than buying a new engine. In addition, it is also beneficial for a dealer who sells new cars to provide such services.

Fault diagnosis and subsequent repair of cracks in the engine is a painstaking and complex process that takes much time. At the same time, the cost is quite high, but not higher than purchasing a new engine, and even more so a car. Cracks must be blocked by drilling and cutting small holes at the ends. Then cut the threads with a sword and screw the studs into the holes, cutting them flush with the body. Then clean the cracks with a grinder or with a hand tool. Also, carefully process the repair area with a grinding tool to give the necessary roughness. If cracks in a cast-iron engine block are repaired without heating, then arc welding is usually used, and an electrode wire with a diameter of 1.2 mm acts as a filler material (Koppisetti et al., 2022). This method provides reliable crosslinking of the metal and its stress resistance.

The dealer spends a small number of materials and employees’ labor on work. Accordingly, providing such services is profitable because it does not require high costs. However, such repairs are a big responsibility and require qualified mechanics. This is necessary because of the risks that may arise in the event of poor-quality stitching or cracks on the engine. Thus, the salon may need to pay mechanics more for such operations. However, this is not a significant disadvantage compared to other types of repair work.
