Hong, H., & Han, A. (2020). Educational Gerontology, 46(2), 72-83.

Hong and Han found that the staff’s need for sensitivity and understanding was frequently stated (Hong & Han, 2022). The authors argue that service quality is directly related to empathy. The essence of the source is to identify understanding as a critical element in providing long-term care for elderly patients. Hong and Han address the quality of care and through which healthcare structures it is best presented. The paper aims to define the nature of the relationship between the patient and the staff. The source on what is most important to the organization of integrated care so it complements my previous findings on the place of empathy in long-term care. The work confirms the value of empathy as documented in other sources. The information can be seen as reliable and objective because it is a comprehensive overview of positive personnel patterns. It will be helpful in my research to formulate the material into coherent statements. The review confirmed my observations that understanding is the key to dialogue.

Eldh, A. C., van der Zijpp, T., McMullan, C., McCormack, B., Seers, K., & Rycroft-Malone, J. (2016). ‘Scandinavian Journal of Caring Sciences, 30(2), 365–373.

Eldh et al. found that among the dominant feelings, participants in the study highlighted job satisfaction and sharing empathy (Eldh et al., 2016). The authors’ main argument is that achieving job satisfaction is impossible without empathy. The authors address themes of the relationship between job satisfaction and outcomes. This source is about balancing personal attitudes toward work and one’s responsibilities. It confirms that much research has been done on empathy, so my research and ideas will be relevant in the current time. The study aimed to determine the parameters affecting feeling after care among employees. The information seems reliable and objective, but this source is over five years old; more current new information can be found. In addition, the lack of information on negative characteristics forces me to look for additional data. It seems useful but did not help me formulate an accurate attitude toward personal relationships. I probably will not use it in future work because it confirmed my ideas but did not supplement them.

Kerasidou A. (2020). Bulletin of the World Health Organization, 98(4), 245–250.

Kerasidou’s main argument that AI can be given the responsibility of performing routine acts of care, based on which the staff will be able to think critically (Kerasidou, 2020). The author touches on how care, staff, and technology are related. This source is about finding ways for staff to align care with the technological capabilities of AI. It is brand new to my findings, so it is incredibly useful. With a medium level of evidence and a high level of objectivity, the work is worth including in my research to discuss the prospects for long-term care using AI. The goal of the source is to synthesize a unique approach to care based on empathy and technology. Kerasidou’s work prompted me to think about caregiving and who can help with it. It helped me to look at the issue of staff and responsibility for emotional comfort in a new way, opening up the topic from a new perspective.

Baguley, S. I., Pavlova, A., & Consedine, N. S. (2022). Health Expectations: An International Journal of Public Participation in Health Care and Health Policy, 25(4), 1691–1702.

Baguley et al.’s main argument is that patients pay attention to whether their doctor is listening to them (Baguley et al., 2022). The article’s point is to summarize patients’ perceptions of what is important to them. The authors address the topic of two-way communication, which significantly improves the quality of care. This paper is about finding the right approach to the patient and what to pay attention to when communicating with them. The information in the article corroborates my other findings in the sources, updating them. The study has a high level of evidence and objectivity and aims to examine staff behavior and patient perceptions of it. The paper provides valuable information for a literature review and a discussion of my findings. Although the information in the paper confirmed my beliefs about what is essential in nursing, some of the topics made me think. The source will probably be incorporated into my research to confirm or refute my findings.
