Nowadays, the planet is in permanent danger of cataclysms. The glaciers are thawing owing to the consequences of global warming, and some areas of the earth are regularly exposed to acid rain. Other threats are human-induced hazards such as terrorism, war, and dictatorship. Considering all of this, mankind, and particularly those working in the critical facilities, must remain alert to and prepared to deal with emergencies (Alston et al., 2019). These people include nurses, whose participation in emergency management is emphasized in Healthy People 2030, national program that sets targets and priorities for enhancing the health and welfare of all citizens in the U.S. One of the objectives is to improve crisis management preparedness by creating a resilient community. By developing plans and educating individuals to handle emergencies, communities can adequately prepare for events such as calamities and disease outbreaks (DeMarco & Healey-Walsh, 2019). It is also essential to train for health emergencies, such as a cardiac arrest or severe trauma.

To achieve these, there are particular subgoals in which community nurses can play a pivotal function. For instance, among the subgoals is to improve the amount of blood donations at donation centers (Healthy People 2030, n.d.). Nurses can directly influence this sub-goal by educating their patients. For most of them, carers are an authority to be listened. This is why they can best explain the need for blood donation in case of an emergency. Patient training is an invaluable tool for nurses to affect the achievement of the Healthy People 2030 program’s goals. Nurses are the ones with the most contact and trustworthiness among patients. People are far more likely to follow the advice of a nurse they confide in than an impersonal advertisement on the Internet. In this way, community health nurses can be critical to achieving Healthy People 2030’s goals of crisis readiness and safeguarding their patients.
