DUE TO PROBLEMS WITH ACQUIRING THE TEXT, THIS ASSIGNMENT WILL ALSO BE ACCEPTED L

DUE TO PROBLEMS WITH ACQUIRING THE TEXT, THIS ASSIGNMENT WILL ALSO BE ACCEPTED LATER, BUT YOU SHOULD GET IT SUBMITTED NOW IF POSSIBLE.
Part 1
Please answer the following questions from the material inside of Rules for Writers. Please note that you need the TENTH edition of the book and the PCC edition; any other editions will have different content and pagination, and simply will not work. If you have the required tenth and PCC edition, everything will be easy and fine.
You can do this assignment as text entry or as a file upload; either way is fine by me!
Consult pages indicated for these questions, and YOU MUST ANSWER WITH COMPLETE SENTENCES, RATHER THAN JUST A COUPLE BLURTED OUT WORDS! (You can do it!)
Look at the “Testing your thesis” box on page 378. What are the four things a thesis should do? List them (isn’t brain dead copying fun?)
On page 387 at about the middle of the page, the text gives you advice about how to use sources in your paper…what are these pieces of advice?
Page 388 explains how to use quotes effectively, and why you should also limit your use of them…read this section (56b) and in your own words summarize and explain its contents. (Do not simply blindly copy the bullet points or sentences…explain your understanding of things!)
Section 56c on page 393-394 explains signal phrases as you use quotations. Read this section, and explain why signaling your reader a quote is coming is far better than simply plunking down a quote at random.
Now jump all the way over to page 446 and tell me: What information goes against the left margin at the top of the first page of an MLA paper?
How big should your margins be in an MLA paper? How should text be formatted? (Also on page 446.)
What are the guidelines for fonts in an MLA paper (still on 446…..keep scanning the page!)?
When do you use italics when writing a title? When do you put titles into quote marks? (This is on page 447.)
What special things do you do to a long quotation inside of an MLA essay?
13. What is your favorite color? (Just seeing if you’re really paying attention! And if you know why I put such an odd photo here, good for you! There is a reason for it!)
Part 2
Here we go with part II of some Rules for Writers fun fun fun! In the first essay, an issue I most commonly notice with sentence construction has to do with run on sentences and comma splices, as well as sentence fragments.
Therefore, let’s have you attack this issue by doing the following:
Please read pages 173-178 in Rules for Writers. This material is not exactly exciting, and it mentions a whole lot of technical stuff about grammar (independent clauses and stuff like that that makes your brain shut off, but do the best you can to get the idea of what they are talking about concerning sentence constructions).
Please do the following exercises from the book: Exercise 20-1 on page 178; Exercise 20-2 on page 179;
Exercise 20-3 on page 179. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT USING THE SAMPLE ANSWERS IN THE BACK OF THE BOOK!
3. Additionally, read pages 166-172 in the text. (Yes, I know it’s going backwards in page numbers…work with me here!)
3. Please do the following exercises: Exercise 19-1 on page 172; Exercise 19-2 on page 172. AGAIN, DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT USING THE SAMPLE ANSWERS IN THE BACK OF THE BOOK!
Again, this is not the most engaging material on the planet, I admit, but is intended to help make you a little more aware of certain sentence/grammatical issues that I notice pretty often in Essay #1. Again, you may submit via the text box here or as a file upload, and the theory is that you will keep such things in mind as you work on Essay #2 and beyond.
