Diplomacy is a common practice in many parts of the world. Scholars define diplomacy as the art of executing professional negotiations between two states1. Such negotiations are undertaken by professional diplomats in order address a several issues including environment protection, international trade, peace, and human rights. The practice seeks to find the best solution to every dispute. Diplomacy plays a critical role towards dealing with every challenge. War becomes inevitable if the diplomatic process does not resolve the targeted dispute.

The infamous Vietnam War resulted in three million deaths. The war occurred because after the diplomatic process failed. The First World War also took place because of poor negotiation practices2. The world could have used the best negotiations to avoid this war. The current dispute between the United States and Iran might result in another war. The dispute arises from the issue of nuclear power. The current diplomatic process targets to resolve the dispute. Failure to resolve the existing dispute between these two nations might result in a regional war. This discussion explains why every global president expects the diplomatic process to succeed.

War should not be the only alternative whenever diplomacy fails. War is expensive because it affects the economies of the affected countries or societies. Coercive diplomacy is a better option because it ensures every country behaves in a proper manner. This method entails the use of punishments or sanctions to support every targeted demand. President John F. Kennedy used the strategy to address the Cuban missile crisis3.

Nations can also use Nonviolent Peace Forces (NPFs) to deal with their challenges or disputes instead of engaging in war. Many international organizations such as the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the United Nations (UN) should take control of every global dispute. The approach will prevent more wars4. Some international agencies can use their resources to protect the rights of every global citizen. Such organizations can also help many states resolve their conflicts. A good example is the Peace Brigades International (PBI).
