Introduction

Dante was a religious activist who was a component of the Guelphs and favored the ruling of the Papacy Kingdom over the religious Roman Empire. In his ambitions to settle the conflict that generally existed between the Political and Religious Roman Empire, Dante was exiled by Lord Mayor. As the comedy (Divine Comedy) unfolds, Dante is portrayed as having been leading a double-edged life; being partly religious and partly evil. Throughout his early life, Dante is being brought out as being lost in the ‘dark’ which he thereafter finds impossible to abandon completely (Fiero 149-151).

Discussion

Dante’s work is very influential to Christian life in the perception of their future time afterlife. As Dante is brought out in the comedy, Christians ought to understand that; life after death is dependent on the kind of life that one had been leading while alive. In this regard, therefore, if one was leading a sinless life then his/her life after death would be full of happiness and joy. Conversely, if one was leading a sinful life then tribulations would follow after death as Dante pictures Satan as ‘dark wood’ and ‘a beast’. As it has been revealed, the sinner in the truth circle was punished for their behavior of being self-indulgent, violent, and malicious (Fiero 149-151).

Perhaps, the music in the Gregorian chants is trying to express some kind of victory and enthusiasm by sojourners; who after defeating the challenges of sin are heading to an eternal peaceful life. Further, this kind of music evokes a feeling of happiness and joy experienced by the victors of sin whose life has found tranquility. More specifically, that kind of music can be described as being coaxing and soothing as the sojourners terminate their tribulation in the sinful world (Fiero 121-133).

Christendom was a highly stratified society during the Middle Ages which had limited movement on various social levels. During such times, there were three types of people namely, the pagans, the Christians, and the middle-ground people. More specifically, the Christians were those people who were strictly abiding by the catholic virtues while pagans were political activists who were against the Christians. On the other hand, the middle-ground group represented those people who had no stand either on political or religious sides (Fiero 129-137).

As it was revealed, the above three types of people contributed a lot to the development of Christendom and the consequent implication to the entire European community. Initially, medieval life in Europe was dominated by traditional and customary practices which made the society remain at low levels of civilization. For instance, the Christians enhanced the prevailing of peace and unity among the people while the pagans, being political leaders, instilled and enacted governance laws and rules (Fiero 129-140).

Further, the middle-ground group ensured a state of transition among the people from the time of medieval to reconnaissance era. On this basis, Charlemagne was a Christian in which he was an empire in the holy Catholic Church. In his services in the church, Charlemagne impacted a lot in the development of Christendom which saw a real transformation in the entire European society. Generally, Charlemagne organized various talks with the political leaders which resulted in unity among the three groups of people which existed initially during the Middle Ages (Fiero 159-160).

Conclusion

Generally, various individuals have been very influential to other people in their lifetime in which they are described to have left landmarks for emulation. Examples of such individuals in history, whose life has been quite influential, include Dante and Charlemagne.
