Many companies have improved customer service in their organizations which has led to improved performance in their businesses. Accordingly, customer satisfaction, loyalty and increased profits have been some of the benefits of excellent customer service.

Customers use new standards of measuring the performance of a company hence companies cannot ignore the fact that they are responsible for customer satisfaction through excellent customer service. As a result, there is the need for companies to develop customer service strategies. In developing customer service strategies, identification of potential and existing customers is usually the first step.

Most companies seem to be so busy and disinterested in people such that they never take time to understand their customers well and know what they want (Blanding, 1991).
