Introduction

Throughout history, nations were engaged in cross-cultural dialogues. Describing the interdependence of the international interactions and the processes of globalization from different perspectives, “Crossing the Bay of Bengal” by S. Amrith and “Learning to Speak Lingerie” by P. Hessler both depict the impact of the international trade and migration on the cultures, societies, and environment.

Main body

“Crossing the Bay of Bengal” reviews the strategic and historical importance of the Bay of Bengal for international trade and West-East cooperation. For centuries, the Bay was a “heart of a global economy” (Amrith 2). The Bay of Bengal was a route of migration among Asian countries. On the territories of the Bay, the people from the West and the East could exchange their knowledge, goods, and technologies. With the development of the economy, globalization, and overpopulation the impact on the environment of the Bay became more apparent. “The natural history of the Bay of Bengal has become inseparable from its human history” (Amrith 30). Since the territory is potentially profitable regarding natural resources, the uncertainty in land’s division caused conflicts among the neighboring countries.

“Learning to Speak Lingerie” tells the story of the Chinese migrants in Egypt. Chinese entrepreneurship in Egypt is common. The success of the foreign business depends on the acceptance of the cultural, religious, and societal differences and examination of the customer preferences. The article depicts the example of how two different nations can benefit each other. The Chinese entrepreneurs support the development of society by offering jobs for women that are uncommon for the Middle-Eastern countries. They also have opened the first recycling plant that helps to improve the environmental condition of the region. The business brings a significant financial profit to its owners and inspires the locals to follow their lead. The Chinese-Egyptian interactions will be strengthened in the future as the Chinese government has decided “to increase its stature” in Egypt (Hessler 11). The relations between the countries promise to be mutually beneficial and culturally enriching.

Conclusion

International interactions have always taken place in the world, and the advent of globalization increases the impact on the development of society. History knows both negative and positive cases of relations among the countries. The attention to the environment and respect towards the other cultures are the aspects that can make the global society’s reciprocity more fruitful and sound.
