A research design is a methodical plan to investigate a problem (Gnich, 2004). Every research utilizes a specific design in the methodologies depending on the type of the study to be carried out. Notably, the designs for the quantitative researches are descriptive, correlational, quasi-experimental, and experimental. The paper below analyzes an article from an online database (Gnich, 2004). The article analyzed is Community-Based Interventions to Promote Non-Smoking by Wendy Gnich.

The research articles design is experimental. An experimental design attempts to come up with the cause-effect association among a collection of variables by means of scientific approaches (Gnich, 2004). As such, the article seeks to determine the effect of community based interventions aimed at enhancing non-smoking behavior.

Another feature of an experimental research is that it tries to recognize and enforce control over all other variables excluding one. In the above research paper, efforts that tried to reduce smoking based on interventions aimed at prompting numerous risk factors affecting health issues were included (Gnich, 2004). However, community mediations assessed in terms of the intermediary outcome process, investigations that comprised of the standard measurement of outcomes, and investigations that did not comprise of a control of the community were rejected.

As an experimental research, the study collected numerous forms of data from the literature reviews and experiments (Gnich, 2004). As such, the researchers collected descriptive evidence, information on the reliability of the study, information on the measure of the intermediation, and information about the research findings (Gnich, 2004). Similarly, the experimental research utilized logistic regression, linear regression, and t-tests in its statistical analysis part (Gnich, 2004). Based on the above features, it is apparent that the research articles design was experimental.
