Life of Brian is a movie acted to reflect some of the incidents that are outlined in the Bible. To a great extent the movie was written by a person who had the intention of poking Christ. This is evidenced by the involvement of Brian, the Messiah in many uncouth acts. The movie is so accurate on the issues involving the Bible. For instance, Mandy, Brian’s mother is associated with Mary mother of Jesus. This is evidenced in the first scene in which there is great description of the role played by the three wise men. In the second scene, the movie provides a scenario in which Jesus gives a sermon to a group of people including Brian. In broad parts of the movie, Brian’s followers express their desire for his miracles, an incident that took place in the Bible. From the above, it is evident that the movie was acted with the intention of satirizing Christians.
In the book of Luke chapter 1 to 24, there is a great story of the Messiah. It starts by providing a platform on how Jesus was born, and ends with his resurrection. Both the movie by name Life of Brian and the Revised Standard Version Bible provide information about one specific name, Jesus. In both pieces, the birth of Jesus involves movement of the wise men from one area to another (Astley and Francis, 1992). Both pieces also show that Jesus was born in a unique way. Both Brian, the messiah in the movie and Jesus underwent temptation. This is evidenced in scene 19 of the movie Life of Brian. His followers demanded him to aid to aid them meet their goals in life.
For instance, Simon requested him to provide him with power to overcome occasional temptations that involved keeping vows. Unfortunately, the messiah prescribed in the Life of Brian portrays different characters with the Messiah making up the whole of the book of Luke. For instance, in scene eight of Life of Brian, Brian the messiah expresses his desire for the earthly things whereas the Messiah in the book of Luke rarely portrayed his desire. In most occasions, the messiah in the Bible provided things to the people. For instance, in Luke chapter 9, Jesus fed thousand people in Bethsaida City.
Themes portrayed in the movie
Diverse themes emanate from this movie. For instance, it expounds on the theme of suffering. This is evidenced by the song that is sung towards the end of the movie. It also touches on faith. For instance, in the third scene, Mandy, Brian’s mother expresses her unfaithfulness. Despite being Jesus’ mother, she neither heard nor comprehended what Jesus was saying. The same applied to Brian. Instead of listening to what Jesus was saying, Brian insisted on the stoning of Jesus. A theme of rejection also emanates in many parts of this movie. For instance, Reg expresses his dislike for women in scene eight.
According to him, women are not entitled to joining any movement. The act of some characters in the movies also expounded the theme of dependence. For instance, Simon greatly depended on the assistance of Brian. He wanted Brian to assist him overcome his weakness of not keeping vows. Theme of betrayal is also evident in this movie. This is evidenced in scene 31; most people rejected Jesus despite his assistance to them. They wanted him to be crucified instead of Bwian.
The themes that emanate in the movie relate greatly with the ones that are in the Bible. In both the Bible and the movie there is a theme of betrayal. For instance, Judas betrayal of Jesus is evidenced in chapter 22 of the book of Luke (Holy Bible: New Revised Standard Version, Luk. 22. 1). Theme of denial also emanates in the Bible. In the day that Jesus was going to be crucified, Peter, the disciple of Jesus denied Jesus three times. This is evidenced in chapter 22 of the book of Luke.
The themes portrayed in both the movie “Life of Brian” and the life of Jesus in the Bible relate very well with what we learnt in this semester. For instance, we discussed about the theme of denial which has come out clear in both the movie and the Bible. Additionally, we discussed about denial and its impacts. The same theme emanates also in the movie and the Bible.
In conclusion, both the Bible and the movie “Life of Brian” provide detailed information on the historical issues. They both narrate the events that took place in Judea and Rome. They also expound on the story of the young boy that was born and grew uniquely. Great parts of the two resources also provide detailed information on the life history of Jesus with his disciples. At the end of each story, both in the Bible and the movie, Jesus is crucified. To some extent, the Chinese and the Muslims believed in the origin of earth and heaven (The Koran, 2004). For instance, “the Chinese believed inexistence of Nameless, the beginning of Heaven and Earth, and Narmed, the mother of the myriad creatures” (Ivanhoe 2003).
